NVX Pros & Cons

Things We Like in NVX

The Yamaha NVX looks incredibly striking, as the sharp, edgy and bulky design is an instant hit among the youth segment of buyers. In addition to it, the NVX is loaded with a number of features like front and rear LED lights, all-digital instrument console, front and rear disc brakes, and alloy wheels and keyless ignition.

The large dimensions of the Yamaha NVX give it the flexibility of having a sufficient amount of luggage storage capacity. While the under seat storage space of 25 liters is good enough for holding a full face helmet as well, the small cubbyhole below the handlebar with charging socket is handy as well.

Things We Dont Like in NVX

As the Yamaha NVX comes with a slightly stepped up seat as on many entry-level sports bikes, the pillion seat is not as comfortable as in other scooters. The width too is at a premium, thus lacking the required under-thigh support.

To make its riding dynamics too agile and sporty, the ride quality of the Yamaha NVX is a bit stiff, which is a slight problem in tackling worse roads with suppleness.

Recent Updates of NVX

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor recently launched the Doxou edition of the NVX 155 at a price of RM 10,688. The Matte Blue colour of the scooter along with stylish wheels, copper coloured side panels and front mudguard are the features that set it apart from the standard NVX. The NVX is priced at RM 9906 in the market and is considered as one of the most stylish, advanced and youthful underbone motorcycles in its segment. It is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is equipped with Blue Core technology and VVA and produces 14.7 hp of power and 13.8 Nm of torque. The interesting features of this vehicle include 5.8” LCD instrument panel, beefy front forks, storage space with electric socket, front and rear LED lighting, wide tubeless tires, smart key, 25L under-seat storage space, front fuel filler with cap lid, stop and start system, dual disc brakes and ABS.

Overview

At nearly RM 10000 (after a reduction of RM 600 from the government’s zero rating of GST), the Yamaha NVX 155 is not for everyone. It is for the people who want a kapchai but do not want a boring commuter. They want all the advanced features and the best performance that they can get in a scooter. While it was launched in Malaysia in 2017, it was already being sold elsewhere under the name of Aeroxx. Malaysians had to wait an extra 9 months to get it here. But now it has spent a considerable amount of time here and gained a lot of popularity. In Malaysia, it competes against the Honda PCX, Yamaha’s own NMAX and as you will find out, many motorcycles in the same price range.

Design

This is a good looking scooter. It is compact at 1990 mm (L) x 700 mm (W) x 1125 mm (H) and a wheelbase of 1350 mm. Essentially being an underbone, there is a spine in the front where the fuel tank resides. It is so high that you may want to get on the seat like a bike. The seat is high at 795 mm. Ground clearance is more than enough at 142 mm. The styling is sharp and aggressive. There are angular panels everywhere. The LED lights in the front give it an extremely angry stare. From a distance in the dark, you may think that it is one of Yamaha’s bigger bikes approaching you and not some scooter. The wheels are big 14” ones and wrapped in fat 110/80 53P tires in the front and 140/70 62P tires in the back. The grab bar at the rear is integrated in the body. The seat is fat and wide. The overall impression is one of a purpose-built beefy machine and not some dainty scooter. It is essentially an underbone but tries really hard to be a scooter. There are some sort of footboards on the front. Large 26mm wide forks in the front give confidence and comfort. A giant 5.8” LCD panel digital display serves as the instrument cluster. No analog dials here. It is bathed in Yamaha Blue and displays digits in white. It also has some funky animations and is interactive. The fuel filler cap, starter and the seat can all be unlocked from the same knob. It also comes with a remote starter. That fuel filler flap is on the spine and flips open with enthusiasm. The seat opens up to reveal a gigantic 25L storage space which can easily swallow a full face helmet. There is also a 12 V electrical outlet for charging devices which has its own protected space for storing said devices.

Ride & Handling

The compactness of the scooter extends to the rider too. Once you are on it, there is very little space on the floorboards to move about. However, the riding position is comfortable. The suspension is on the softer side. However, it still inspires confidence to take on corners at speed and also cruise on highways at constant 90 kmph speeds. The scooter is relatively lightweight at 118 kg and is easy to swerve around traffic.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

According to Yamaha, the NVX is able to deliver a mileage of 45 kmpl. It is indeed Yamaha’s first vehicle to be rated as an EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle). The engine shares the same platform as the NMAX. It is Yamaha Blue Core engine with variable valve actuation that provides the best of efficiency or power depending on the position of the throttle. Peak power is 14.8 hp at 8,000 rpm and peak torque is 14.4 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The engine stop-start feature can be disabled via a switch on the right side handle.

Braking & Safety

Unlike the NMAX, there is no disc brake in the rear. The drum brake however works brilliantly with the disc in the front. There is also an ABS system that comes as standard and provides confidence while braking on slippery surfaces.

I have been riding the NVX for 4 months now, and I love every bit of it. First of all, it is so stylish, especially compared to all the other scooters in the range. RIDE YOUR WAY WITH THE YAMAHA NVX

Few days back I had a splendid birthday gift – the Yamaha NVX. My parents gifted me on my 20th birthday. The brand name Yamaha itself speaks for it all. Super stylish underbone in the country

When the NVX was launched, I couldn’t help but drool over its looks and features. It looks so striking, advanced and trendy that I couldn’t take my eyes off it. It’s macho, it’s stylish and it’s very powerful

I was always enticed by sharp, aggressive looks of the NVX, and that’s what pushed me to buy it. I have a black colour one, and it looks absolutely smashing. The fat tyres, black alloy wheels, sharp features all around and a curvy seat hails the design of the scooter. The 155cc engine is full of power and the ride Read More

    Stylish and practical

When it comes to scooters, the Yamaha NVX has no match in the areas of design, modern features, everyday usability and performance. The NVX is probably one of the best in terms of styling. The front end of the NVX looks so aggressive and has a predator like stance. The angular panels provide a sense of modernity to the overall Read More
