2026 Yamaha Y16ZR-R launched in Malaysia with new features, revised engine and more

KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside introducing the Yamaha XSR155, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor has also rolled out the new Y16ZR-R in Malaysia. The upgraded model benefits from striking cosmetic enhancements, new features, and a revised engine for improved performance and efficiency.

2026 Yamaha Y16ZR-R: Price

The new Yamaha Y16ZR-R is offered in two variants - Standard and Pramac Racing Replica, priced at RM 10,888 and RM 13,388 (excluding road tax, insurance and registration) respectively. The mentioned prices include a two-year or 20,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects.

2026 Yamaha Y16ZR-R: Key highlights

• The Yamaha Y16ZR-R gets redesigned body panels, a new LED headlight and three new colour options - Kouka Grey, Raijin Green, and Yoru Black.
• At the core lies an upgraded 155 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine, which generates a slightly increased power of 18.5 hp (up from 17.7 hp) at 9,500 rpm, and the same peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 8,500 rpm as earlier. Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed transmission and slip-and-assist clutch. 
• Yamaha has also revised the gearing system of the moped, which offers quicker acceleration, especially at higher speeds.
• The new Y16ZR-R comes with a new digital LCD instrument cluster that supports the Y-On app, the brand’s new app that connects vehicles via Bluetooth and offers incoming call and message notifications, riding routes and fuel-consumption records, maintenance reminders and more.

• The upgraded underbone bike runs on 17-inch wheels wrapped with 90/80 front and 120/70 rear tyres. Handling the suspension duties are a telescopic front fork and a Kayaba monoshock. 
• As for braking, there is a 267 mm front disc with a two-piston calliper and a 267 mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper. These are complemented by a single-channel ABS and traction control system (a first for a Yamaha underbone motorcycle).

2026 Yamaha Y16ZR-R Pramac Racing Replica: What makes it different?

Limited to 3000 units, the Pramac Racing Replica edition features an exclusive Pramac Racing-inspired livery along with a premium Ohlins adjustable rear monoshock, with other specifications remaining the same as the standard model.

The new Yamaha Y16ZR-R is now available at all authorised Yamaha dealerships across the country.
