Patent images of Aprilia RS660 leaked online
KUALA LUMPUR: Aprilia is expected to soon bring its very own middleweight supersport bike to the global market. And it’ll all begin with the introduction of Aprilia RS660, well that’s what the company hopes for. Aprilia seems quite serious about converting its concept bike into a production-spec model. Putting an approval stamp on the deal are the patent images filed in Australia.
The CAD images that you can see in the article are the same patent filings done by Aprilia in Australia. And the bike in the images tallies with the EICMA concept to a great extent with only a few differences. Like the forks now seem to be Sachs and not Ohlins as fitted in the model displayed at EICMA 2018. Also, the Brembo Stylemas front brake callipers have been replaced by ‘regular’ monoblocs unit. The primary reason for the shift we feel is cost cutting, thus making the bike affordable to the masses.
However, remember that Aprilia more than often offers its bikes in two trim - Standard and Factory variants. The later ones are fully loaded in the electronics and chassis department, like in the case of Tuono V4 and RSV4. The same thing can be true for the RS660.
One of the key highlights of the bike is aero body applications. There have been talks about a feature called Aprilia Active Aerodynamics system. However, what it does and how it operates remains unknown.
According to the sources, the production-spec Aprilia RS660 will be unveiled at the EICMA 2019.
