Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650's overall design has remained unchanged since it debuted in 2017. It has a pure old-school feel, with the Interceptor 650 being a proper retro-themed roadster with simple-looking panels and elements. 

The functional-looking Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has a classic round-themed headlamp unit with a black casing, with the headlamp having an all-LED treatment that adds a modern touch to the motorcycle. This rounded LED headlamp has amber-coloured turn indicators on its sides, with the motorcycle having a slightly upright handlebar and chopped-styled front and rear fenders. 

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has retro-styled rubber gaiters over the front suspension tubes, while the motorcycle has a simple-looking round-themed fuel tank with curved knee recesses on the sides. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 also has simple trapezoidal side body panels that are nestled between the rear frame members on the sides. 

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has a long seat which has a quilted pattern for its design, which is large enough to accommodate two full-sized adults, though we would have liked to have a softer cushioning feel. This seat has a minimalist tubular pillion grab rail behind its rearmost section, while the motorcycle has a chopped rear fender, with a hexagonal halogen tail lamp and turn indicators mounted on it. 

The dual-pod analogue instrument console of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has remained unchanged ever since its launch in 2017. With an analogue speedometer and tachometer, this instrument console also has a small rectangular LCD panel for fuel gauge, odometer, trip meters, and service due indicator placed within the left analogue pod. In its most recent update, the switchgear of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 was updated, which has a unique design but is very easy to use.

The Barcelona Blue and Black Ray colour options of the Interceptor 650 have a blacked-out theme for the alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes, engine, and rearview mirrors. The rest of the colour choices have chrome treatment for the spoke wheels, exhaust pipes, engine, and rearview mirrors. 

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has a pretty basic mechanical architecture under its retro-themed skin, with the motorcycle being based on a steel tubular double cradle frame and having a suspension setup of the conventional telescopic fork at the front and dual coil springs with preload adjustability at the rear.

Equipped with a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear, the Interceptor 650 has tubeless tyres with alloy wheels in Barcelona Blue and Black Ray colour options and tube-type tyres with spoke wheels in the rest of the colour options. In either case, the tyre sizes remain the same – 100/90-18 front and 130/70-18 rear.

The Interceptor 650 is powered by Royal Enfield’s most powerful and refined engine to date – a four-stroke, air-cooled, inline-twin, 648cc engine. Paired with a 6-speed transmission, this inline-twin engine generates a maximum power output of 46.8 bhp, while its peak torque output is rated at 52.3 Nm. This engine impresses with its low-end torque and acceleration, with the 6-speed transmission also being slick to use. 

Except for dual-channel ABS, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 doesn’t get any other modern-day electronic riding aid, which explains its low asking price point. However, considering how advanced other middleweight motorcycles are, the Interceptor 650 could have had more riding aids on offer. 

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 might not be the most technically advanced motorcycle out there in the middleweight motorcycle category, with its overall design and mechanicals being too basic in their approach. However, the Interceptor 650 is a stellar value-for-money proposition for offering the thrills and power of a middleweight motorcycle at the price of a sub-400cc bike.
