Midweight adventurer built for Malaysian roads
To chase waterfalls around Gopeng, I got the V-Strom 800DE, and it works everywhere. With a clean pull at 2,000 rpm, the new twin makes riding on wet estate roads easy. When you stand on the pegs, the suspension feels soft, but you can still control it when you hit a rock out of the blue. It sits at 130 with little buzz on highways and gets twenty-one kilometres per litre. The seat is high, but it's not too hard to get up and down once you know how. When I was going down a wet path after it rained quickly in the evening, the switchable ABS in Gravel mode saved my bacon. The only thing I don't like about it is the simple glass. It needs to be bigger and stronger.
