From The Experts

Things we like

The best thing about the SYM VF3i 185 is the way it looks. For a cub class bike, the SYM VF3i 185 indeed has a very sporty aura with an aggressive design and loud graphics, which makes it look proportionate right from the front to rear. The slim and sharp design language is purely likable for its targeted audience – the urban youth.

It’s not only the design which makes the SYM VF3i 185 look youthful and trendy. The moped is packed with premium features like LED daytime running lamps, LED turn indicators, LED tail lamp and a part digital instrument console, which do make it feel contemporary.

Powering the SYM VF3i 185 is a four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 183cc engine, which makes it the most powerful cub class bike and the one with the biggest engine in its segment. The maximum power output of 18 PS and a peak torque output of 15.3 Nm makes the SYM VF3i 185 the most powerful cub class bike in the market right now.

Despite being an entry-level cub class bike, the Yamaha Lagenda 115Z has been equipped with a disc brake and alloy wheels, which demonstrate that Yamaha has not compromised much on mechanical aspects. The Lagenda 115Z gets a disc brake at the front, which does provide decent feedback for a bike of this class.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 113.7cc engine of the Yamaha Lagenda 115Z might sound a bit basic on paper. However, for a bike targeted at the lower segment, the Lagenda 115Z’s engine is well refined and vibration-free.

Tipping the weighing scales at just 100 kgs, the Yamaha Lagenda 115Z feels agile to ride and control in various conditions. The large 17-inch tyres do make the Lagenda 115Z responsive enough to every twist of a handle.

Things we don't like

The SYM VF3i 185 has a single piece long seat which due to its slim profile, might not be too comfortable for two full-sized adults.

The SYM VF3i 185 lacks a bit in the aspect of practicality, as there is not much sufficient under-seat storage to carry even the smallest of the luggage from point A to point B.

When compared to other cub class bikes from Japanese two-wheeler makers, the SYM VF3i 185 lacks the finesse in the build quality and fit and finish which deters its appeal a bit. Also, the engine despite being best-in-class in terms of performance isn’t too refined as expected and sounds a bit rough at higher rpms.

The Yamaha Lagenda 115Z tries to look sporty, but in the process, it looks a bit disproportionate, especially from the front. The front apron looks overly bulbous from the middle, which doesn’t gel much with the overall slim profile of the bike. The dual headlamps setup too looks a bit awkward.

While Yamaha hasn’t much compromised on the mechanical front, it is the list of features which make the Lagenda 115Z feel a bit low rent. The full analog instrument console looks too plain, while there is no other notable feature apart from key shutter mechanism to make it look a bit premium.
