Malaysia Autoshow 2023: Top Motorcycle/scooter launches

The Malaysia Autoshow 2023 which ran from 3rd to 7th May 2023 was a hit among the spectators. The auto show witnessed several big car and motorcycle launches and concept showcasing. Here will be discussing some of the major two-wheeler launches. So, let’s get started -

2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE

2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE

Price: RM 88,888

Engine: 1,037 cc DOHC, Liquid-cooled V-twin unit generating a maximum power of 105.5 hp and a peak torque of 100 Nm.

Transmission: Six-speed gearbox and chain final drive

Key highlights: 190 mm ground clearance, Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), range of official accessories

The all-new Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE is quite different from the base model all thanks to the design revisions made by the brand. Part of the design kit is - 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, and Dunlop Trailmax Mistour tyres. The standard on the DE-spec model is a new ‘gravel’ mode which complements the three already modes.

2023 Yamaha “Tech Art” Doxou Y16ZR limited edition

Price: RM 11,818

Engine: 155cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve engine with VVA making 17.7 hp at 9,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 8,000 rpm

Transmission: An assist and slipper clutch equipped six-speed gearbox and chain final drive

Key highlights: LED lighting all around, LCD instrument panel, cyan painted wheels, limited edition Y16ZR Sports Fender, a Y16ZR memorabilia emblem with edition number

Limited to just 5,000 units, the 2023 “Tech Art” Doxou Y16ZR features striking graphics compared to the 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR Doxou. The scooter is mechanically identical to the standard Y16ZR and it comes equipped with a two-piston brake caliper and 245 mm brake disc on the front and a single hydraulic caliper and disc at the back. At 119 kg, it gets a 5.4-liter fuel tank, 795 mm seat height, and a 10 mm shorter clutch lever.

WMOTO Gemma 125

Price: RM 6,988

Engine: 117.3 cc, air-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder mill pumping 8.3 hp at 7,500 rpm and 9.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm of torque

Key highlights: A 3.5-inch TFT type screen, USB charging port, full LED lighting with front automotive-grade LED unit, a Smart Key System or Passive Keyless Entry (PKE)

The Gemma 125 is offered in two color tones, namely Special Purple and Refined Gray. The scooter features a 13-diameter roller rocker which minimizes friction, thus reducing mechanical damage and extending the life of the camshaft and swing arm. The gets a fairly big under-seat storage area that can accommodate a ¾ size helmet and personal items.

2023 CF Moto XO Papio

Price: RM 8,888

Engine: 125cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine4 generating a maximum power of 9.5 hp at 8,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 8.3 Nm at 6,500 rpm

Key highlights: Two-channel ABS, twin LED headlight, backlit handlebar pods, digital LCD screen

The Papio XO-1 mini-bike is inspired by the 80s meo-retro sports bikes and is based on the ongoing Papia ST-125. It is not only good for first-time riders but also great for young motorcycle enthusiasts.

2023 Kawasaki KX250

Price: RM 35,000

Engine: 249cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder unit

Transmission: Five-speed gearbox and chain final drive

Key highlights: Electric starting, launch control, and a Renthal Fatbar handlebar

The KX250 is a motorcycle for only off-road use as it misses out on road legal hardware like lights, turn signals, and mirrors. Taking care of its suspension needs is a 48 mm diameter upside-down fork with adjustable compression and rebound damping giving 314 mm of travel and Kawasaki’s Uni-Tak rising rate suspension with adjustable dual-range compression, rebound, and adjustable preload damping with 316 mm of suspension travel.

2023 Kawasaki KX250X

2023 Kawasaki KX250X

Price: RM 35,500

Engine: 249cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder unit

Transmission: Five-speed gearbox and chain final drive

Key highlights: Side stand, 1480 mm of ground clearance, 945 mm seat height

The KX250X like its sibling the KX250 is only for off-roading purposes. Helping the motocrossers stop is a single 270 mm disc and two-piston caliper in front and a single-piston caliper with a 2450 mm disc in the back. It rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels.

2023 Aveta VADV150

Price: RM 13,980

Engine: 149cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC four-valve mill fed by EFI churning out a maximum power of 16.22 hp and a peak torque of 14.6 Nm

Key highlights: Digital Video Recorder (DVR) system with front- and rear-facing cameras, adaptive front lighting, a 7-inch TFT-LCD display, Bluetooth connectivity, tyre pressure monitoring, keyless start, engine start-stop at idle, two-position manually adjustable windshield and a USB charging port

The 2023 Aveta VADA150 Hybrid scooter aims to take on the likes of the Honda ADV160 in the local market. It is loaded with several advanced technologies and features found on higher-end scooters. It is dubbed as ‘Hybrid Assist’ it takes the form of a Smart Motor Generator that feeds drive back into the engine via an alternator. It is offered in three hues in Malaysia - Red Ruby, Yellow Topaz, and Blue Sapphire.

2023 Kawasaki Z H2 SE

2023 Kawasaki Z H2 SE

Engine: Supercharged 998 cc, inline four-cylinder engine making 200 hp at 11,000 rpm and 137 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm

Transmission: Six-speed gearbox equipped with assist and slipper clutch with chain drive

Key highlights: Kawasaki Intelligent Brake System (KIBS), Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), and three riding modes

The Z H2 SE hyper naked sports motorcycle will be available for purchase by the end of June 2023 and will be available in two striking hues namely Metallic Matte Graphene Steel Gray and Metallic Matte Graphene Steel Ebony. It also benefits from upgraded suspension and braking components compared to the standard H2

2023 Modenas Dominar D400 Adventure

Engine: 373cc single-cylinder engine makes 40 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque

Transmission: Six-speed slipper clutch equipped gearbox and chain final drive.

Key highlights: Taller windscreen, new hand guards, leg guards, an engine bash plate, a passenger backrest, USB charging port, a navigation stay software.

The 2023 Modenas Dominar D400 Adventure comes in two hues - Charcoal Black and Savanna Green. And by the end of this month, it will be available for purchase at authorized Modenas dealerships.

Engine: 249 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder mill with twin-spark cylinder head making a maximum power of 26.8 hp at 8500 rpm and 23.5 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm

The Dominar D250 will soon be available in authorized Modenas Malaysia dealerships and will be offered in three hues - Citrus Rush, Sparkling Black, and Racing Red.

Key highlights: Lighted flexcase, keyless ride, reversing aid, helmet storage compartment with courtesy light, USB charging port in the dash, storage compartment with USB ports, 12 Volt socket, three riding modes (Rain, Road, Eco), a 10.25-inch TFT color display with Integrated Map Navigation

The CE04 electric scooter gets charged via an integrated charger utilizing either domestic current, a public charging station, or a Type 2 wall box. Braking duties are taken care of by twin 265 mm diameter discs on the 15-inch front wheel and a single 265 mm disc and a single-piston floating caliper at the rear. For suspension, there is a single-bridge telescopic fork with 110 mm spring travel at the front and a single-sided swingarm and central spring struts at the rear.
