Aprilia parts ways with Naza Premira; Didi Resources to be new distributors

KUALA LUMPUR: Aprilia has parted ways with its Malaysian distributor Naza Premira. The latter in a statement today mentioned that the parting is amicable. Naza Premira says that brand rationalisation is the reason why they had to terminate the partnership. The Vespa and Piaggio brands still rest with Naza Premira. The parting of ways was bound to happen as Aprilia wasn’t keen on introducing any new products from the last two years. Profitability wasn’t achieved by Naza it seems and hence sustainability too was in the question. Earlier this year, Harley-Davidson Malaysia also terminated their distribution partnership with Naza Premira. The deal with Aprilia distribution ends on July 31, 2018.

Customers of Aprilia vehicles in Malaysia need not worry as Naza has promised that it will support service operations till September 30, 2018. After this period, it is likely that the new distributor of Aprilia motorcycles will provide service to existing as well as new customers.

Didi Resources has now been confirmed as the new distributor for Aprilia products in Malaysia. Didi will being their operations from August 1 and the immediate concern will be to look at the existing Aprilia dealer network and if need be, restructure them. Having one main dealer in every region of Malaysia is the immediate goal for Didi. Plans for a prime Aprilia store somewhere in Gasket Alley are also in the pipeline. More and more owner involvement with the product can also be expected from Didi Resources. Activities such as track days, group and meeting riders from MotoGP are also part of the plan.

Naza Premira has quite some history and hosts some exotic brands. It has a noticeable Italian history after all and is a distributor for Ferrari, Maserati and many other European brands. The Naza Automall, which was opened in 2005, is the largest automotive showroom in Malaysia. The built-up area of 250,414 square feet has a capacity to display more than 2,000 vehicles at a time. Naza Automall has also entered the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s largest vehicle showroom. It is also being boosted as a tourist spot now.
