Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR prototype video teaser released

KUALA LUMPUR: Triumph has ignited the fire in the belly of auto enthusiasts by releasing an unexpected teaser video of the Speed Triple 1200 RR prototype. Although the clip is not very revealing, we can figure out some interesting bits on the superbike's silhouette. 

The name suggests the upcoming production-spec superbike is based on the Speed Triple 1200 RS and may have a similar cast aluminum frame. In the video, we can spot a single piece retro-style headlight neatly incorporated in the fairing in a typical Italian fashion. 

The bike has carbon fibre accents below the fuel tank and contrasting stitching on the rear seat for aesthetics. The rear seat cowl with pillion footpegs and a TFT screen dash will also visible in the teaser. 

On the mechanical front, the upcoming Triumph bike is likely to borrow an engine from the Speed Triple 1200 RS. That’s an 1160-cc liquid-cooled inline-triple unit that kicks out a maximum power output of 180 PS and a peak torque of 125 Nm. It could be paired with a 6-speed gearbox. 

In addition, the RS’ semi-active Öhlins suspension system and Brembo Stylema braking setup can also be added to the mix. And we wouldn’t be surprised if the electronics package also carried over from the streetfighter cousin

About the arrival of the upcoming sports machine, the British premium motorcycle brand did not spill the beans yet. But, we did get a hint from the URL of the company’s official web page revealing the Speed Triple 1200 RR prototype. It states ‘my22’ and ‘2022’, which implies the production-spec Speed Triple 1200 RR will be making its way to the roads sometime next year.

Besides this, Triumph unveiled two adventure-touring motorcycles recently, viz. the 2021 Tiger 1200 Desert and Tiger 1200 Alpine Special Edition, which are based on the Tiger 1200 XC.
