Aprilia RS 660 Extrema

Based on the standard version of the RS 660 supersport motorcycle, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema does get a few visually differentiating design elements, which make it look a sportier iteration of the former. The primary thing being introduced here is the “Chequered Flag” paint scheme, where both the sides of the fuel tank and fairing panels have blacked chequered patterns over them. The Aprilia RS 660 Extrema comes standard with this paint scheme in which the fuel tank, front fairing and side fairing panels are painted white, while the tail section and wheels are painted in light red.

The aerodynamic front fairing of the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema has a curved design, with the lower half housing the triple LED headlamp setup of the motorcycle, with the side headlamps having wraparound daytime running LEDs over their side and lower edges. Apart from the fairing-mounted rearview mirrors and aerodynamic front windscreen, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema also gets a carbon fibre front fender.

The Aprilia RS 660 Extrema looks muscular and has the big-bike appeal with its large-sized fuel tank and side fairing panels, which have already been mentioned, and come with chequered flag patterns over them. The engine here is finished in a theme of gunmetal grey, while the exposed chassis is finished in a theme of grey. Riding on red-coloured 17-inch wheels, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema also gets an SC Project exhaust pipe and carbon fibre engine cowl, which along with the carbon fibre front fender, lowers the weight of the motorcycle by almost 3 kgs.

At the back, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema misses out on a pillion seat and instead gets a red-coloured pillion seat cowl for a sportier riding experience of the purest form. Behind this tail section, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema gets a compact M-shaped LED tail lamp. The rider’s cockpit of the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema also looks purposeful with the clip-on performance handlebars and a modern full-TFT 5-inch instrument console, which reads out comprehensive information while on the go. The Aprilia RS 660 Extrema also gets backlit switches on the clip-on handlebars.

The Aprilia RS 660 Extrema also retains the basic mechanical setup with the standard RS 660 without many changes. This more aggressive version of the RS 660 also sits on an aluminium dual beam chassis with a removable seat support subframe and comes with a suspension combination of 41mm upside-down Kayaba telescopic front forks with 120mm travel and adjustable spring preload and rebound damping at the front and an aluminium asymmetric swingarm and adjustable mono-shock with spring preload and rebound adjustments and 130mm travel at the rear.

The suspension is tuned on a stiffer side with lesser suspension travel to make the overall handling feel agile and highly responsive around corners. Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels equipped with a 120/70 R17 tyre at the front and a 180/55 R17 tyre at the rear, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema gets dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear for braking.

For the RS 660, Aprilia developed an all-new four-stroke, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 659cc engine, which has been retained in its original form in the performance-oriented Aprilia RS 660 Extrema. Paired with a 6-speed transmission, this engine generates 100 PS of maximum power and 67 Nm of maximum torque output. This parallel-twin engine is known to offer peak performance levels, which love to be revved hard.

One of the best-equipped motorcycles in the middleweight sports bike category, the Aprilia RS 660 Extrema comes with features like a bi-directional quick-shifter, dual-channel ABS, five riding modes (Rain, Road, Track, Rider 1 and Rider 2) and an APRC package including traction control, wheelie control, engine braking control and cruise control.

The Aprilia RS 660 Extrema ranks high in performance, riding aids and top-class mechanical hardware, which along with the minor updates it comes with over the standard RS 660, makes it one of the most aggressive and focused supersport motorcycles in the middleweight category.
