KTM's 690 Enduro R is one of its longest-running and arguably the most popular production model, dating back to 2008. The platform, mechanics, and aesthetics have been revamped tastefully over the years, which has enabled this sporting off-roader to stand tall against other members of this segment, and even larger displacement counterparts. The popularity of the Enduro R can be credited to its great power to weight ratio and extensive aftermarket parts support. Through the last upgrade, KTM has revamped the Enduro R with a new aesthetic, upgraded engine, improved suspension, electronic rider aids, more fuel capacity, and a chassis that enables a more rider-friendly seat height. The lightweight chassis provides better stability and control, and KTM has equipped the Enduro R with the latest electronics and WP XPLOR suspension too. Overall, the 690 Enduro R features state-of-the-art technology and its sporty all-round ability is not only good for off-roading but day-to-day use as well. The KTM Enduro R is available in a single variant priced at RM 42,800 (excluding insurance and taxes). It competes against the Kawasaki KX450F, the Kawasaki KX250F, the KTM 450 SX-F, the KTM 250 EXC‑F, and the KTM Freeride 350.
With the last update to the model, the Enduro R received upgrades to the bodywork too. Although the overall rugged, dirt bike look hasn’t fidgeted around, KTM did make some improvements. The overall styling is based on the EXC family, for a more aggressive look and enhanced dirt ergonomics. The bodywork was redesigned with other updates including the addition of a USB outlet built into the left side of the headlight cover, the increased fuel capacity, and a fairly simple Traction Control switch on the handlebars. KTM also replaced the whimsical tail light with a clean LED unit and tidied up the tail section. The instrument cluster resembles the dash of a 500 EXC; it provides the rider with all important information including the current selected gear and rpm.
The Trellis frame, made of top-quality chrome-molybdenum steel tubing, provides high torsional rigidity for best handling and reliability, while a more specifically tuned longitudinal flexibility can support the suspension for reduced rider fatigue. The rear fuel tank has been used as the main structural element of the subframe, which keeps the weight low for better balance. Riding over rough terrains is simplified by 48 mm upside-down WP XPLOR forks at the front and WP XPLOR with Pro-Lever linkage at the rear. Highly rigid, advanced triple clamps with an offset of 24 mm give a solid grip on the forks for precise handling. They provide forward and backward adjustment of the handlebar in four different positions for optimum rider ergonomics. KTM’s spoked wheels, 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear are wrapped with MITAS E07 tires that offer an excellent on-road grip and great lifespan.
Powering the 690 Enduro R is a 690cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4 V/OHC engine that churns a max power of 74 hp at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 73.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The smooth 6-speed gearbox with a Quickshifter+ transmits this power to the wheels and allows quicker clutchless up and downshifts when you are in the midst of the action. It not only allows better control, since the clutch is not required to shift gears, but also improves rear-wheel traction. The engine integrates powerful acceleration from the very lowest revs with outstanding free-revving nature and refined engine running. It’s extremely economical - KTM claims it consumes 4.1 litres of fuel every 100 km. There are two ride modes available - Street Mode, for sporty throttle response and optimal street performance, and Offroad mode, for smoother throttle response with offroad traction control. The PASC (Power Assist Clutch) assures that the rider needs the least input to operate the bike; that's due to decreased engine torque transferring to the clutch plates. Additionally, the slipper clutch prevents rear wheel lock-up under aggressive downshifting and adds to the overall stability.
Stopping power on the 690 Enduro R is provided by a 300 mm disc with Brembo two-piston floating caliper at the front combined with a 240 mm disc with Brembo single-piston floating caliper at the rear. The 690 ENDURO R features sophisticated Cornering ABS and Offroad ABS, that allows for full-throttle confidence on any terrain. Offroad ABS deactivates the ABS function on the rear wheel and allows a specific slip on the front. Pushing the ABS button on the dashboard deactivates the ABS functionality on the front and rear wheels.
Only a few dual sport motorcycles can match the KTM 690 Enduro R’s off-road capability and performance. With the upgraded responsive suspension and advanced electronics, the current iteration feels better-rounded than ever before and even more capable. The bike is one of the best candidates for serious backcountry travel at this price tag.

Currently, there are very few enduro bikes in the market that can stand toe to toe with the 690-Enduro-R. This is because of the radical design, powerful engine and superior handling of the 690 Enduro R that is very difficult to match by its competitors. The 690cc liquid-cooled engine makes around 65PS of power which is more than enough for
