Audi Q2 previewed in Malaysia, 2019 debut possible
KUALA LUMPUR: Audi distributor, Euromobil has surprised everyone in Malaysia by previewing the Q2 and the second-gen Audi Q5. It is believed that the German brand is strategizing to enhance its brand popularity and regain its lost glory in Malaysia with the help of the upcoming range of SUV models. Hence, a possible debut in 2019 cannot be totally overruled.
Last year, Audi Thailand unmasked the Audi Q2 (the 35 TFSI trim). The German automaker designed the Thai-spec Q2 model with a 1.4-litre four-cylinder TFSI turbocharged petrol mill, which is paired to an S-Tronic 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The vehicle can churn out a maximum power of 152 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm.
Moreover, the Audi Q5 model is already on sale in Thailand with both petrol and diesel engine options and is coupled with an S-Tronic 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
When Audi Q2 was launched for the very first time back in 2016, it was a brand new and the most compact Audi SUV model. The dimensions of the vehicle (the western model) read 4,191 mm in length, 1,794 mm in width and 1,508 mm in height. The Q2 is a premium yet funky-looking compact crossover, featuring even smaller dimensions than that of the Audi Q3. As it is being speculated, this smallest five-door Audi SUV might put up a good fight against the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the likes, once it is officially launched in the country.
There is an intense demand for SUVs in the Malaysian auto-market and Audi might keep itself busy with the possible attractive launches in this segment in 2019. Though it is not confirmed yet, there is a possibility that the Q2 and the second-gen Q5 might debut in the upcoming year.
