Toyota Veloz

The Toyota Veloz comes with well-appointed dual-tone black and beige upholstery around the cabin, which makes the already spacious cabin feel even airier. Despite being an entry-level MPV, there is a sense of premiumness in the Toyota Veloz, which is evident in its tight fit and finish levels.

The driver’s cockpit of the Toyota Veloz looks fancy with the large 7-inch TFT screen in the instrument console behind the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel. The centre console here has an angular appeal, with a rectangular free-standing touchscreen infotainment system above the trapezoidal AC vents. The lower part of the centre console gets automatic climate control buttons, a push start-stop button, and an array of switches for various functions behind the transmission lever. The sides of the centre console get nice-looking silver inserts.

The cabin of the Toyota Veloz is well-equipped with features like semi-leather seats, ambient lighting, a soft-touch dashboard and AC vents for all three rows. The second and third-row seats have several flexible seating configurations, making the cabin feel practical.

Compared to the Avanza, the new Toyota Veloz looks sharper, more aggressive and larger. It is an MPV for the new generation buyers, which is the reason why it looks contemporary.

At the front, the Toyota Veloz has a bold-looking fascia, comprising a large hexagonal grille with triangular inserts within it. This grille comes with a chrome strip above it, which extends over the sweptback all-LED headlamps positioned on the upper corners of the front fascia. These all-LED headlamps have curved inner and outer edges and come integrated with LED turn indicator strips below them. The front bumper also looks aggressive with T-shaped inserts around the fog lamps and LED daytime running lights placed on the corners, and a silver skid plate in the middle.

The side profile of the Toyota Veloz looks long, thanks to the long wheelbase and continuous-running shoulder line. The Veloz comes with door-mounted rearview mirrors, rounded wheel arches, diamond-cut alloy wheels and chrome garnish on the shoulder line, which starts from the edge of the headlamp and runs towards the lower edges of the rear windscreen.

At the back, the Toyota Veloz continues the sense of aggressiveness and boldness in its appearance, with the MPV getting an LED light bar running across the width of the boot lid, joining the extended LED tail lamps on both sides. The air curtains on the sides of the rear windshield merge well with the roof-mounted spoiler, while the boot lid gets a trapezoidal housing for the license plate, with its upper part bearing the ‘Veloz’ nameplate.

The Toyota Veloz is a comfortable compact MPV. Its suspension combination comprises Macpherson struts with a stabilizer at the front and a torsion beam with a stabilizer at the rear tuned on a slightly softer side for calm and composed ride quality.

Powering the Toyota Veloz is the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is available here with a 7-speed CVT gearbox as standard. This engine is decently refined and produces a maximum power output of 106 PS and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. There are two drive modes – Eco and Power – for those who want different driving experiences for different speeds.

This single variant of the Toyota Veloz is packed with an array of safety features, including pre-collision warning,  pre-collision braking assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention with steering assist, lane keeping alert, front departure alert, adaptive driving beam, blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. It also gets front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera, vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, electronic parking brake, six airbags and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

Toyota has levelled up its game in the compact MPV segment with the Veloz by giving it aggressive styling on the outside, a well-appointed and decently-equipped interior and an extensive list of safety features.
