With the all-new 2019 Toyota Yaris now firmly on the Malaysian soil, the Japanese carmaker has made its big move. It’s quite clear that the vigilant B-segment hatchback has entered the battlefield, all guns blazing and prepped to take on its rivals. While the previous avatar of this globally successful hatch was good, its rivals were even better. However, this time around, Toyota has left no stone unturned when it came to the new Yaris and it kind of shows. There have been significant improvements made to the exterior and interior styling, but that’s not all. You also get added features and safety equipment, a roomier cabin, and fuel-efficient engines. But first… let’s look at the new Yaris’s pros & cons.
Step inside the 2019 Toyota Yaris, and you realise that there’s plenty of space for even tall-ish folks. The seats are alright as well, though lumbar support is lacking. Design-wise, this interior sure isn’t as gawk-worthy as its outer shell. While there are certain aspects of it that keep it from being totally monotonous, this certainly isn’t an exciting place to sit in. Having said that, it’s far better than its predecessor, and the subtle faux metal inlays combined with the piano black finish on the dashboard, centre console and doors look decent. Meanwhile, the blue stitching on the door pads and seats, and blue footwell lighting also help lift the ambience a bit. The build is strong, though the materials aren’t necessarily premium. However, Toyota has bettered the in-cabin NVH by adding additional sound-proofing measures. There’s also automatic climate control, power-folding mirrors, illuminated scuff plates, a surround-view monitor & digital video recorder, drive mode selector, a multi-information driver’s display, and a 6.8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with six speakers.
The 2019 Toyota Yaris is clearly not an astounding piece of automotive art, but its design won’t put you to sleep, either. It’s modern and fresh enough to intrigue you, but the complicated front end may not be to everyone’s liking. Complex as it may be, it not only stands out but also makes the new Yaris look more sporty. The fully-loaded 1.5 G variant (with the optional aero package) comes with large, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, and neatly integrated front spoiler/splitter. The side is characterised by a sloping roofline, large front doors, sporty side skirting, and stylish 15-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes all-around.
The rear styling is relatively conservative and isn’t as opinion-dividing as its front. And while the bulky bumper design may not bode too well with some people, the smart-looking partial LED taillights come into the rescue by offering a sense of occasion. The fancy aero kit also scores well by tacking on a rear spoiler, aggressive bumper extensions, and some fake vents. The Yaris is also larger now, boasting identical overall width (1,730 mm) and wheelbase (2,550 mm) as that of the Vios sedan. Of course, its lack of a trunk makes it shorter, and its shallow boot can barely hold up to 290 litres of luggage.
The 2019 Yaris gets independent struts up front and semi-independent twist-beam setup at the back. This means decent low-speed ride and acceptable high-speed stability. The handling characteristics are predictable, but there’s no real sense of excitement behind the wheel.
The 2019 Yaris comes with Toyota’s refined 2NR-FE four-cylinder motor that delivers 105 horses and 140 Nm of torque. The CVT gearbox is smooth and efficient, and as far as CVTs go, this one isn’t too bad. Better still, this engine-gearbox combo also pays dividends when it’s time for a fill-up. If driven sanely enough, the new Yaris can return up to an incredible 19 kmpl. Of course, with nought to 100 kmph time of 11 seconds and a top speed of around 175 kmph, speed isn’t the highlight here.
With all-around anti-lock disc brakes, the new Yaris stops plenty well. It also scores a gleaming five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, featuring seven air pillows, plus vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitoring, and even rear cross-traffic alert.
While this is neither a fun-to-drive car nor a design classic, the 2019 Toyota Yaris certainly doesn’t sacrifice on fuel economy or usable practicality. If you want a well-sorted, safe hatchback for between RM 71,000 and RM 84,000, the Yaris deserves to be on your list.
Toyota Yaris is a great hatchback that comes equipped with a very punchy engine which is refined at the same time. Even after revving the engine till it’s redline, there are no such vibrations offered. In addition to that, the space offered inside the cabin is very good and can easily fit five adults without compromising on comfort. I wish
For a compact family like mine who is out there for a car with not so big footprints, the Toyota Yaris is an excellent premium hatchback to begin with. This car has got all the points pretty much sorted, whether you take its styling or its comfort for both front and back seat passengers. Sometimes, I do feel that the
Now who does not look for a car that is within your budget but has not compromised on any aspect in any manner? Same I did and I got this all new highly advanced Toyota Yaris car. This can be labeled as the most affordable car from the house of Toyota. The car is decent in terms of fuel economy.
The Yaris returned to Malaysia in 2019 after a pretty long absence and it is now a worthy competitor in its segment dominated by the Honda Jazz. The best thing about the new Yaris is its ultra-smooth suspension which lends a comfortable ride and handling. The cabin is extremely quiet and allows you to enjoy the in-car entertainment without any
Having driven this car for the past 6 months, I can say that the ride and handling of this car feels elegant and smooth. Taking corners are fun and feels and uneven road surfaces does not ruin the sense of comfort by much. Fun, comfortable and stylish is how I'd describe this car although I'd recommend the E and G
Recently I got a chance to drive the Toyota Yaris which belonged to one of my colleagues. After driving it for almost a week, I fell in love with it. I was looking for a compact car for myself and I think that I should opt for this one. I was impressed with the overall stylish design, swift engine and
I just love the upgraded version of Toyota Yaris. The car is longer and wider than its previous versions. The space that the car is providing is quite adequate. The car looks stunning with its grille and font headlights. The tail lights and rear lights are also looking stunning. The good quality plastic inside looks fabulous. I found the seats
I have been using Toyota Yaris for quite a while now and I have never faced any major issue with it till date. According to me, the Toyota Yaris is one of the most stylish hatchbacks in the market currently. I mean it has got such an aggressive and sporty design that is complemented by the sleek headlamps and rear
The look is fantastic but the seat rest is too high, blocking my view, as for the type J, why is the visor without a mirror, why want to cut cost on just a small mirror, overall the design is awesome, only some minor things need to look into it.
When Toyota first teased the Yaris, I totally fell in love with the car. Being a college student, I thought it’s the car my dad won’t say no to. I checked out the Yaris at the recently held Malaysia Autoshow 2019, and I was taken aback by its super-smart design and all the cabin tech. Features like auto air-con system,
