Mitsubishi Xpander is one of the most popular and loved cars in the Japanese automaker lineup. Revealed back in 2017 in Indonesia, the MPV is a success in several ASEAN countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. As of June 2020, Xpander reached a cumulative sales figure of around 256,000 units. It was only recently that Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia (MMM) confirmed the MPVs soon arrival in the country. And the company is "very excited for a thrilling year ahead with the introduction of this impressive seven-seater crossover in Malaysia later this year". Apart from a few teaser images, all the information about the Xpander is under covers. However, we can always sneak on to our neighbors for details. Also, it is being said that Malaysia will receive the facelifted Xpander introduced in Indonesia a few months back.
In terms of looks, the Xpander will feature the company's dynamic styling that includes the Dynamic Shield grille, LED headlamps, 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamp, halogen fog lamps, rear defogger, and reverse camera. In terms of dimensions, the 7-seater MPV will measure 4,475 mm x 1,750 mm x 1,730 mm (LXWXH). Ground clearance and wheelbase will measure 205 mm and 2,775 mm, respectively. Like the exterior, the Xpander interior will be stylish and technically-abled. It will feature leather-wrapped steering with hands-free switch, leather-covered gear knob, and fine upholstery. On the connectivity front, the car benefits from a 2DIN touchscreen audio system with AM/FM, voice recognition, iPhone/iPod/iPad, USB player, smartphone connectivity, and Bluetooth.
The soon to arrive is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre MIVEC DOHC 16-valve powerplant that thumps up a maximum power of 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 141 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The power is directed to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the variant. Speaking of which the MPV is offered in two variant options - Standard and Cross, however, what MMM will offer locally is a mystery.
Like most of the Mitsubishi vehicles, the Xpander also displays a strong and stable safety front. Built on Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, the MPV gets enhanced collision safety performance. Its safety kit features dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Emergency Brake Distribution, Brake Assist, Lane Change Turn Signal system, Active Stability Control, Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist, Immobilizer, ISOFIX, keyless operating system, power window timer, auto door relock system, power window timer, and more.
The automaker is yet to share details about the car's pricing. However, we expect it to cost between RM 63,625 - RM 80,364. Seeing the Xpander available in around us, the car is expected to be offered in several interesting colour options - Deep Bronze Metallic, Quartz White Pearl, Graphite Grey Metallic, Sterling Silver Metallic, Jet Black Mica, and Red Metallic. Once Mitsubishi Malaysia brings the Xpander to the local market, it'll rival the likes of Toyota Avanza and Honda BR-V. Overall, the MPV's attributes like convenience, roominess, and functionality, make it a suitable car for the Malaysian market.
I got to see the Mitsubishi Xpander in person at my recent visit to the Mid Valley Megamall. And I have just one word to say, STUNNING. That two-layer grille, LED headlamps, the large fog lamps, and those stylish L-shaped taillamps, I loved them all. I asked my father to check it out too, and he loved it as well,
After driving the Toyota Vios for years, I am now looking for an SUV that’s powerful and loaded with features. But my main concern was reliability; you see, Toyota never bothered me much, plus the after-sales service is smooth as butter. So, finding an SUV that equally good is difficult, but then I heard about the Xpander. The car looked
After checking the pics and specs of Xapnder online, I have truly come to appreciate its design. Though it does not look massive on the outside, the cabin space is quite interesting I also love the new design of current Mitsubishi cars, it looks bond and angular. However, the interiors have a simple design with all the controls ergonomically laid
