Putting all the pickup trucks together, the Mitsubishi Triton happens to be the sleekest looking of all of them. The front horizontal grille, with the chrome garnish tapering down towards the fog lamps, give a sharp character to the front fascia of the Triton, thus making it look very different from all other bulky looking pickups.
With a robust chassis under its skin and Mitsubishi’s prowess in off-road vehicle engineering, the Triton has been bestowed with an excellent four-wheel-drive system. The system is also very handy to use, thanks to the rotary-style knob on the centre console.
For a pickup truck, the Mitsubishi Triton is generously equipped with some really nice and premium features, which are generally found in luxury SUVs. Features like full LED headlamps, cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto and roof-mounted AC vents do give the Mitsubishi Triton a premium appeal of a midsize SUV.
Being a pickup primarily oriented towards off-road driving conditions, the ride quality of Mitsubishi Triton is not as plush as a midsize sedan or SUV. The suspension feels bouncy at times, while there is a slight amount of body roll at higher speeds.
The Mitsubishi Triton is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is quite powerful and gets the job done. However, it lacks the refinement of modern diesel engines and is slightly noisy at higher rpms.
With a turning radius of 5.9 meters and long wheelbase, the Mitsubishi Triton feels a bit cumbersome to drive in tight city traffic conditions.

The Mitsubishi Triton has been perceived as one of the most reliable and practical pick up trucks in South East Asian markets. The appeal of the Mitsubishi Triton touched new heights with the new facelift, which promises a more modern approach towards pickup trucks. Available in both 4x2 as well as 4x4 variants and manual and automatic transmissions, the Mitsubishi Triton is offered in four colour options – White Diamond, Jet Black Mica, Graphite Grey, and Sterling Silver.
Hop inside the Mitsubishi Triton and you will find it similar to any passenger car. It has the friendly and feature-rich approach intact and would please any tech-savvy owner. The four-spoke steering wheel has control buttons for the driver’s convenience.
The seats are spacious on both the rows and the upholstery is comfortable. Speaking of the seat-wrapping, the lower variants has fabric upholstery while the top trims get leather with orange stitches. The legroom and headroom are huge, which makes it perfect for longer trips.
Up at the dashboard, there is a touchscreen infotainment system that has Apple CarPlay connectivity along with Bluetooth, USB and voice command. However, the VGT Adventure X and Premium do not have the CarPlay. The lower models just have the 2-DIN system.
The audio system is routed to either six or four speakers, depending on the trim. However, the base variant just has a two-speaker system on offer. Barring the base variant, all the other trims feature automatic climate control (the top end even has dual-zone control).
The new Mitsubishi Triton is undoubtedly one of the best-looking cars in the segment. It is both stylish and urban, especially after the recent facelift. The pre-facelift model did receive a lot of competition from its peers like the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and Chevrolet Colorado.
However, the makeover was welcomed with wide arms. The current model is rich in features, especially the top-end VGT Athlete. There are auto Bi-Xenon HID headlamps with manual levelling and LED DRLs. Rear fog lamps are given as standard in all the variants while the top end models have the front fog lamps.
The van rides on alloy wheels as a standard and there are no rim options offered. However, the base variant has the 15-inch wheels while the VGT MT has 16-inch units. All the other higher variants have 245-section 17-inch wheels. The rear deck is quite big and the dimensions read as 1,520 mm length and 1,470 mm width.
The presence of a 4WD selector and cruise control work wonders for the Mitsubishi Triton. The Independent-Wishbone and Coil Springs front suspension, and Rigid and Elliptic Leaf Springs rear are tuned in the aptest way possible to support both private as well as commercial driving.
The engine impresses to a great extent, especially the 2.4-litre variant. There is a very strong mid-range pull if you get the throttle up higher. However, rigorous acceleration feels a little laggy while you are still on the low rev range. The moment you cross the 1,000 rpm mark, the feedback is effortless.
When at a standstill, rev the engine hard on neutral and you will find the exhaust sound to be pleasing. Also, it's very different than conventional pickup vans.
The Mitsubishi Triton is offered in two states of tunings. The 2.5-litre intercooler turbocharged engine comes in two setups for the base trims. The lower one can make 110 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque while the higher tuned mill delivers 136 PS and 324 Nm.
The other 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel motor is more powerful and makes a humongous 181 PS at 3,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 430 Nm, which comes at 2,500 rpm. The lower trims have either a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the top trims get a 5-speed automatic unit with manual mode (paddle shifter).
The Mitsubishi Triton has ABS and Electronic brakeforce distribution given as standard braking features in all the trims. Apart from that, all the VGT variants have Brake Assist, Traction Control, Active Stability Control, Trailer Stability Assist, and reverse parking sensors. The reverse camera is also given but not with guidelines in the VGT GL.
Moreover, there is one more thing that takes the safety concerns to a higher level. Upon testing, it received a 5-star rating at the ASEAN NCAP crash test. This could be achieved with the help of an extra-rigid frame, side door impact beams, head impact protection structure, etc. The lower variants have dual front SRS airbags while the higher models have seven airbags on offer, thus making the cabin safer.
The Mitsubishi Triton, unlike most pickup vans, hasn’t had a lot of success right from the beginning. It had to battle it out against the segment greats, which was not very fruitful until the latest generation upgrade came into the picture.
That, combined with certain other attractive offers and benefits from the company has made it a striking option to go for, in the mid-range pickup van segment in Malaysia.
Mitsubishi Triton is a perfect combination of toughness, durability, and reliability, all packed in one car. It is a light commercial loading multi-vehicle with dual cab, two and 4 - wheel drive, and a family truck. Great fuel mileage and easy to operate as an off-road excursion. It comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, 7-inch touch screen smartphone link display,
Considering the bad patches of Malaysian roads, I wanted a robust pickup truck that can glide over bad roads. I was having a lot of options in this segment but I considered getting the Mitsubishi Triton because there was no other vehicle at this price point to offer such amazing performance and specifications. Also, the reliability offered by the carmaker
If performance is what you stress upon this car won’t of course dishearten you. I agree you may get many other cars in same price range that will prove to be extra powerful than this one. But this car also satisfied me more or less. I prefer to drive this mostly off road. In fact, if you are more of
The Triton is an impressive piece of hardware! You would not really associate trucks to be tech-focused but the Triton certainly seems to be. You get more than some cars/SUVs! Leaving the tech aside, the Triton is a great truck. You can work hard and play hard thanks to its versatile nature. The 2.4-litre diesel motor has good grunt in
The pickup world is dominated by Ford and Toyota and it's understandable why. When I was in the market for a pickup, I decided to check out the Triton and could not find it inferior in any way to the competition. I love the way it looks both inside and out, there is a certain feel-good factor about the cabin
Since I have a furniture business, I needed a pickup that is durable and powerful enough to carry the required load from one site to another. I also required this vehicle to have a decent cabin space along with easy-handling and a large deck. I was scouting for such pickup truck in the market when I came across the Mitsubishi
The Triton has always been an underrated truck, but the new one takes the game to an all-new level. It is now the best looking truck in the segment and the performance to match! It has just been a short while with this truck and it has already impressed me on several occasions. A little more time is needed to
Last year 2018 I have apply the 2018 Triton model but bank didn't approved it. And in 2019 I try again to apply the car luckily I have it. So happy and very satisfied with the new model. Love it so much,
Cars are my passion and I love purchasing the best ones in the market as and when I get a chance. My latest purchase is Mitsubishi Triton. Now if you ask me what made me so interested about this car, I will admit I was totally knocked down at its looks. The car looks so very sleek and elegant. I
I cannot get over my passion for driving the wider car of any brands. I have been incisive for the car which has to be sturdy in a tough ways. I hunt for new places every day to expand my business thus I have to carry load of material into the car. There are many brands that have the comparable
