GAC Aion Y Plus

The cabin of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus has a simple design with an all-black leather upholstery offered as standard, which also gets a horizontal design for the dashboard and contrasting silver and gloss black accents. The cabin is high on modernity with bits like a 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console behind the flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel with rectangular side spokes and a blue accent on the lower spoke. 

Another element that makes the cabin look high-tech is the massive 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which, along with the sleek AC vents on the dashboard corners and lower centre console, make the dashboard look nice and sophisticated. The cabin of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus is further graced by features like a 6-speaker audio system, a 6-way powered and ventilated driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and a wireless charger.

Compared to the previously available Aiyon Y, the newly-updated GAC Aiyon Y Plus has minimal design tweaks, which have made the already attractive and futuristic-looking compact MPV an even better attention magnet. The blocky MPV-ish stance of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus looks better with modern design elements on offer. 

Take, for instance, the front profile of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus, which looks eye-catching with the large Angel Wing LED headlamps, which also come integrated with seven daytime running LED bars across their shape that flow downwards. Besides these inverted Y-themed headlamps, the front profile of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus also has a raked bonnet and a stretched trapezoidal air dam at the bottom of the front bumper. 

The side profile of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus has an MPV-ish silhouette with it getting grey-coloured wheel arch mouldings and a cool-looking set of alloy wheels – 17-inch in the Elite and 18-inch in the Premium variants. The GAC Aiyon Y Plus also gets flush-type door handles, door-mounted rearview mirrors and large window panels. Thanks to the connected LED light bar running between the sleek-looking combination LED tail lamps, the Aiyon Y Plus looks very trendy even from the back. 

With Macpherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, the GAC Aiyon Y Plus handles and rides as well as any other new-age compact MPV. The space levels are optimum and the ride quality is comfortable at lower speeds too. However, the Aiyon Y Plus doesn’t feel enticing to drive, particularly due to the very light steering setup. 

The GAC Aiyon Y Plus comes standard in a front-wheel drive configuration with a front axle-mounted electric motor that develops 204 PS of maximum power and 225 Nm of maximum torque. This electric motor is paired with a single-speed transmission and can propel the GAC Aiyon Y Plus to the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in 8.5 seconds, making it quick for a car of its size and price. A 63.2kWh battery pack is also offered as standard, which claims a WLTP-certified range of 430 km and supports up to 80kW DC fast charging. 

Both the variants of the GAC Aiyon Y Plus come standard with front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, auto hold, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and 360-degree parking camera. In addition, the Premium variant also has a few ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane centring assist. 

With all the tweaks and advancements over the previously-available iteration, the GAC Aiyon Y Plus has only become a more desirable compact MPV, with it showcasing its excellent with an improved list of features, a better-performing powertrain and a spacious cabin on offer.
