It was only last month that UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) launched its latest seven-seater MPV, the Veloz. And we have discussed several aspects of the new Toyota in detail including hits & misses, safety, and key offerings.

Now, it’s time to compare the new Toyota Veloz MPV with another strong contender in the segment, the Mitsubishi Xpander. So, it's two Japanese cars going up against one another in the Malaysian market.

Both the MPVs showcase surprisingly similar dimensions with the Xpnader only slightly exceeding in a few areas; which obviously won’t make any difference.

Both the MPVs are powered by the same 1.5L engine with more or less power and torque outputs; 1 PS more power in Veloz and 3 Nm more torque in the Xpander.

The above-mentioned info reveals the new Veloz to be better equipped than the Xpander. It can be a big advantage for the Toyota car.

Cabin spaciousness

The new Veloz is designed to offer versatility with its cabin truly redefining spaciousness. For instance, the MPV comes with foldable seats, big luggage space, luggage tray & deck box, and 15 drink & bottle holders spread across the cabin.

The Xpander offers several compartments that fulfill the passengers storage needs. The list includes a glove box with a double compartment, 2nd row with side pocket, seat pockets, & cup holder, 3rd-row side pocket & cup holder, a smartphone storage compartment, a center console box with a sliding lid, a cargo floor box with lid, and an under seat multi-purpose storage.

The new Veloz benefits from Toyota Safety Sense of driver assist functions including - Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Braking Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention with Steering Assist, Lane Departure Control, Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, Adaptive Driving Beam, and Front Departure Alert. It also gets a surrounding monitoring system with a rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitor. Parking is made easy and fun with parking assistance with pedal misoperation control and parking sensors. Its active safety kit also includes - auto brake hold, parking brake, vehicle stability control & traction control, hill-start assists control & emergency stop signal, and ABS. Not to forget the six airbags (driver, front passengers, side, & curtain).

Conclusion

The new Toyota Veloz and Mitsubishi Xpander look largely similar in performance, dimension, and styling front. However, the new Veloz benefits from more comforting and safety features which seems like an advantage. However, before making a choice it is best to take a thorough test drive and choose the one that suits you best.
