Hyundai Malaysia previews the Stargazer X at their Durian Runtuh event, with an RM5,000 event-only rebate

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Motor Malaysia opens the doors on the Stargazer X this weekend, and the invitation is open to anyone. The Hyundai Stargazer X Malaysia preview: durian and RM5k rebate car is the reason to go. The free durian and free car wash there might actually give you a nudge to check it out.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When and where is the Hyundai Malaysia Durian Runtuh event?

It runs on 8 and 9 August 2026, from 8am to 6pm, at the Stadium MBPJ parking area in Kelana Jaya.
  • Is the Hyundai Stargazer X on sale in Malaysia yet?

Not yet. This is a preview, not a launch. The unit on display is an Indonesian-specification preproduction car, and the first Malaysian units will arrive as fully imported models from Indonesia before local assembly follows.
  • How much will the Hyundai Stargazer X cost in Malaysia?

Estimated pricing from the KLIMS preview put the Stargazer X at RM121,000, with the Style at RM99,000 and the Prime at RM109,000. These are estimates, not confirmed prices.
  • The range-topping variant of Hyundai's upcoming B-segment MPV is the centrepiece of the Hyundai Durian Runtuh event, held at the Stadium MBPJ parking area in Kelana Jaya on 8 and 9 August 2026, from 8am to 6pm.

It is a two-day roadshow rather than a launch, so the car on display is a preview unit and not something you can drive home yet. There are test drives on though, and there is a reasonable chance you walk away wanting one, because as a compact MPV proposition the Stargazer X is more interesting than most.

The other pull for anyone who turns up is fairly simple. There is free durian, a free car wash, a free 29-point vehicle inspection that Hyundai says is not limited to Hyundai vehicles, and a free trade-in evaluation.

Buyers who commit at the event get an additional RM5,000 rebate on top of whatever the standard campaign savings are, which Hyundai quotes as up to RM38,000 on bookings.

Everyone who registers goes into a draw to win a unit of the new Stargazer, and there is RM10,000 worth of Touch 'n Go eWallet credit up for grabs through the test drive activity.

Bookings also come with gifts, trade-up support, faster loan approval and an invite to a Hyundai N experience.

What the Stargazer X actually brings

The X is the rugged-flavoured version of the Stargazer, following the same playbook as Mitsubishi with the Xpander Cross. Outside, it gets a black H emblem, a silver and black radiator grille, a sportier bumper, black overfenders, side skirts and gloss black 17-inch alloys.

There are also bridge-type roof rails rated to carry up to 100kg, which is genuinely useful if you actually load a roof box for balik kampung runs, and rear disc brakes instead of drums.

Inside, the X gets leatherette upholstery and captain seats in the middle row, making it a six-seater rather than the seven-seat layout of the lower variants.

There is a floating centre console with a detachable tray, a palm rest, a wireless charging pad, shift-by-wire transmission control with paddle shifters, seat back tables with pockets, and an LED overhead console and room lamp.

Safety kit covers six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, Rear Occupant Alert, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and the full Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite.

The caveat worth knowing before you go

Hyundai has been upfront about this one, and it is worth repeating. The Stargazer X on display is an Indonesian-specification preproduction unit, and several items on that car will not make it to the Malaysian version.

Those are the surround view monitor with blind-spot monitor, ambient lighting, the driver's power seat, the driver's ventilated seat, and the nine-speaker audio system. Malaysian cars get six speakers as standard.

So if you walk around the display unit and fall in love with a feature, check the list before you sign anything.

    Price and where it sits

Estimated pricing from the KLIMS preview put the Stargazer at RM99,000 for the Style, RM109,000 for the Prime and RM121,000 for the X, with the first batch arriving as fully imported units from Indonesia before local assembly follows.

Every variant uses the same 1.5-litre Smartstream G naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine making 115 PS and 143Nm, paired with Hyundai's chain-driven IVT, so the X is about presence and equipment rather than pace.

At an estimated RM121,000, the Stargazer X sits at the top end of the segment for Malaysian buyers. The Perodua Alza runs from around RM62,500, the Toyota Veloz sits at roughly RM95,000, and the Mitsubishi Xpander spans about RM99,980 to RM109,980.

Hyundai's counterargument is the equipment list, the six-seat captain chair layout and the eight-year or 160,000km warranty.

The Durian Runtuh event runs both days this weekend. Free durian and a free car wash are worth the trip on their own, and you get to see the car before anyone else in Malaysia does.
