Top 10 best-selling EVs in Malaysia for 2025

Malaysia's electric vehicle market has been growing at a fast rate, driven by the launch of exciting and affordable EVs, increasing consumer confidence, and government incentives. A total of 36,690 electric cars were sold in the country from January to November 2025, representing a 91% year-on-year growth compared to 19,208 units registered in the first eleven months of 2024.

The undisputed king of the Malaysian electric vehicle market is the Proton e.MAS 7 has been leading the charts since the beginning of the year. The automaker sold a total of 7740 units of the electric SUV in the first eleven months of the year. 

The e.MAS 7 retained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling EV for ten straight months (January to October). However, in November, the Tesla Model Y took the No.1 spot amid accelerated purchases ahead of CBU EV tax incentives expiring by the end of the year. 

Launched in December 2024, the Proton e.MAS 7 has been winning the hearts of consumers with its value-for-money proposition, spaciousness, safety features, ride comfort, handling, and onboard technology.

The Proton e.MAS 7 comes in two variants - Prime and Premium, priced at RM 109,800 and RM 123,800, respectively. Both are powered by a single electric motor generating a maximum power of 218 hp and 320 Nm. As for the battery pack, the entry-level model comes with a 49.52 kWh unit offering a WLTP-claimed range of 345 km, whereas the Premium trim has a 60.22 kWh unit with a cruising range of 410 km.

BYD Sealion 7/BYD Atto 3

In the second spot, we have a tie between the BYD Sealion 7 and BYD Atto 3, with year-to-date sales of 3,569 units each. 

Launched in November 2024, the BYD Sealion is an electric performance SUV with premium styling and cutting-edge technology. It is offered in two variants - Premium and Performance, priced at RM 183,800 and RM 199,800, respectively. The Premium trim is powered by a single rear-wheel drive electric motor generating 313 PS and 380 Nm, while the Performance trim equips a dual motor setup tuned to make 530 PS and 690 Nm. Both are equipped with the same 82.5 kWh blade battery pack, offering a range of up to 567 km.

The BYD Atto 3, on the other hand, made its way to Malaysia in late 2022 and remained the undisputed leader in the Malaysian EV market throughout 2024. The automaker introduced the upgraded Atto 3 in March this year, rebranding it as the Atto 3 Ultra. Priced at RM 123,800, the EV comes powered by a 204 PS/310 Nm front-wheel drive motor and a 60.48 kWh Blade battery pack, offering a range of 420 km.

Tesla Model Y

The next best-selling EV in Malaysia is the Tesla Model Y with year-to-date sales of 3,490 units. The EV received an upgrade in February 2025, featuring a refreshed exterior inspired by the Cybertruck as well as cabin improvements in terms of comfort and tech. 

The Tesla Model Y comes in two variants locally- Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range All-Wheel Drive, priced at RM 195,450 and RM 242,450, respectively. The RWD trim offers a range of 466 km while the AWD variant delivers up to 551 km on a single charge.

The Tesla Model 3 is also a strong contender in the local EV space, securing fourth place in the top-selling list with a sales figure of 1,977 units.  

Tesla Malaysia offers the Model 3 in three variants - Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range All-Wheel Drive, and Performance All-Wheel Drive, with prices ranging from RM 181,000 to RM 242,000. The entry-level version is powered by a rear-mounted motor, offering a WLTP-rated range of 513 km. The AWD trims come equipped with a dual-motor setup that enables the EV to cruise up to 629 km.

Another BYD EV popular among Malaysian buyers is the M6, which was introduced in October 2024. The brand sold a total of 1,496 units of this seven-seater electric MPV from January to November 2025. 

Designed to meet the needs of modern families, the BYD M6 is an eco-friendly yet luxurious option for daily commutes and long road trips. It comes in two variants - Standard and Extended, priced at RM 109,800 and RM 123,800, respectively. 

The Standard model is powered by a 163 PS/310 Nm single e-motor and a 55.4 kWh battery providing up to 420 km (NEDC) of range. The Extended trim, on the other hand, runs on 204 PS/310 Nm of electric motor and a larger 71.8 kWh battery offering up to 530 km of range. 

BYD Atto 2

In sixth place is yet another BYD EV, the Atto 2. This compact and affordable electric SUV entered the Malaysian market in July this year, and in just four months, the automaker delivered its 1,336 units.

Designed for the youth and the young-at-heart, the Atto 2 features a stylish design and trend-setting lifestyle features. Priced at RM 100,000, the EV comes powered by a single FWD electric motor delivering 177 PS and 290 Nm. The motor is fed by a 51.13 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 410 km (NEDC).

Denza D9

Denza, BYD’s premium sub-brand, also caused a stir in the Malaysian EV market with the launch of the D9 MPV in February this year. Denza has sold 1,002 units of the D9 so far, making it one of the most desirable luxury MPVs in the premium electric mobility segment.

The Denza D9 is available in two variants - Advanced and Premium, priced at RM 259,000 and RM 309,000, respectively. The former is powered by a single FWD electric motor delivering 313 PS and 360 Nm, while the latter comes with a dual motor setup kicking out 374 PS and 470 Nm. Both are equipped with the same 103.6 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of 520 km for the Standard and 480 km for the Premium. 

BYD Seal

Next on the list is the BYD Seal, which was Malaysia’s best-selling electric sedan in 2024. The EV received an upgrade in August this year, bringing enhanced styling, added comfort features, and sharper performance credentials to the table. The company has sold a total of 989 units of the EV so far this year.

The BYD Seal is available in two variants – Premium and Performance, priced at RM 171,800 and RM191,800, respectively. The Premium variant comes powered by a single RWD motor generating 313 PS and 360 Nm, while the Performance runs on a dual motor setup that churns out 530 PS and 670 Nm. Both variants feature an 82.56 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which delivers a range of 570 km and 520 km, respectively.

Zeekr 7X

Launched in August this year, the Zeekr 7X ranks ninth in the top 10 best-selling EVs in Malaysia. A total of 831 units of this Chinese electric SUV have been sold so far in 2025.

Based on Geely’s PMA2+ platform, the Zeekr 7X is a mid-sized EV featuring a sleek and futuristic design and an 800-volt electrical architecture. It comes in three variants - RWD Standard, RWD Long Range, and AWD Performance, with prices ranging from RM 179,800 to RM 226,800.

The RWD trims are powered by a single electric motor delivering 421 PS and 440 Nm, while the AWD Performance runs on a dual-motor setup tuned to make 646 PS and 710 Nm. As for the battery pack, the RWD Standard comes equipped with a 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit, offering a range of 480 km, whereas the RWD Long Range and AWD Performance feature a 100 kWh nickel cobalt manganese pack, providing a range of 615 km.

BYD Seal 6

Launched in September this year, the BYD Seal 6 also managed to secure a spot in the top 10 best-selling EVs in Malaysia, ranking 10th with 824 units sold in just two months. 

Touted as the country’s most affordable and largest C-segment EV sedan in the country, the BYD Seal 6 focuses on affordability, comfort, and practicality. It comes in two variants - Dynamic and Premium, priced at RM 100,000 and RM 115,800, respectively. 

Both are powered by a rear-wheel drive electric motor generating 129 PS and 220 Nm for the Dynamic trim and 218 PS and 330 Nm for the Premium trim. Feeding the motor is a 56.64 kWh BYD Blade pack, offering a range of 485 km (NEDC).

These best-selling EVs highlight the evolving preferences and demands of Malaysian consumers, underlining the fact that electric mobility is no longer a niche but a practical and appealing choice.
