2026 BYD Atto 3: Variants explained - Ultra vs Premium – Which one should you choose?

The Chinese EV giant BYD entered the Malaysian market in 2022, with the launch of the Atto 3, which quickly grabbed customers’ attention and remained the undisputed leader in the local EV market throughout 2024; however, the top spot was taken up by the Proton e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 5 later. Well, this Chinese electric SUV is now geared up for its next innings in Malaysia. 

Launched earlier this month, the new Atto 3 brings some significant changes over the outgoing model, offering more performance, a longer range, and faster charging. 

BYD Sime Motors offers the 2026 Atto 3 in two variants - Ultra and Premium. If you are wondering which variant is right for you, here’s a detailed comparison of both to help you make an informed decision.

As we can see in the above table, the Atto 3 variant is priced at RM 125,800 while the Atto 3 Premium costs RM 138,800, making the latter RM 13k dearer than the former. Included in the prices are a six-year/150,000 km warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery and motor warranty.

To make the EV more accessible, the company is offering an early bird launch package worth up to RM 14,000 for the first 500 customers, which includes -

• Free AC wallbox charger with installation or six years of complimentary service

Size-wise, both Atto 3 are identical, measuring 4,455 mm in length,  1,875 mm in width, 1,615 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. However, when it comes to storage capacity, the Premium variant has an upper edge, offering a front storage space of 101 litres (absent on the Ultra) and a boot space of 490 litres (seats up), which is 56 litres more than the base-spec model. 

Additionally, the Atto 3 Premium weighs more than the Atto 3 Ultra, which is likely due to the bigger battery pack in the former.

In terms of drivetrain specs, both variants of the Atto 3 are completely different. The base-spec Ultra model features a front electric motor while the Premium runs on a rear-mounted motor.

While FWD configuration remains unchanged from before, the more powerful RWD setup mated to a bigger 74.88 kWh Blade LFP battery makes all the difference, enabling the EV to accelerate quicker, go further, and charge quicker.

However, the Atto 3 Premium stands out with added features like a power-adjustable front passenger seat, dual-zone climate control system, an extra airbag (centre), and a more comprehensive ADAS pack.

Which BYD Atto 3 variant should you choose?

Choosing between the Atto 3 Ultra and Atto 3 Premium ultimately comes down to your budget and driving needs. If you prefer stronger performance, over 500 km range, and faster charging, you can go for the Atto 3 Premium. But if you want a more value-focused EV with a decent 420 km range and a generous equipment kit at a lower price point, choose the Atto 3 Ultra.
