New Denza D9 teased for Malaysia, here’s what to expect?

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD’s premium sub-brand, Denza, made its grand entry into the Malaysian market with the launch of the D9 in early 2025, garnering much love and attention. Now, after almost one and a half years, the brand is ready to give its luxury electric MPV an upgrade.

Denza Malaysia has recently released a dark video clip of the new D9 on its social media handle with a ‘coming soon’ caption. So, what can we expect from the all-new 2027 Denza D9? For this, we can refer to the Indonesian market, where the EV has already made its debut. 

2027 Denza D9: What to expect?

Exterior design largely unchanged

In terms of looks, the upcoming D9 is likely to retain the same exterior design, with the same ‘waterfall’ grille integrating long vertical chrome slats. However, we can expect new 18-inch alloy wheels and new dual-tone exterior colours. 

More powerful electric motor

Under the skin, the new Denza D9 is expected to get a more powerful front-wheel-drive electric motor, generating a maximum power of 462 PS and a peak torque of 365 Nm. This marks a significant increase over the exciting FWD model's 313 PS and 360 Nm. As for the AWD version, the upgraded Chinese model is tuned to make a whopping 557 PS.

Bigger battery and longer driving range 

The battery pack will also be getting an upgrade from 103 kWh to 115 kWh, with driving range expected to increase from 600 km to 730 km (NEDC)

BYD Flash Charging technology 

One of the biggest upgrades that we can expect from the upcoming Denza D9 is the ultra-fast BYD Flash Charging technology, which operates at up to 1,500 kW and takes 5 minutes for 10% to 70%, 9 minutes for 10% to 97%, and 12 minutes for 20% to 97% in conditions as cold as -30°C, which can drastically reduce charging speeds. 

Earlier this month, the automaker signed a memorandum of understanding with Gentari to identify suitable locations for the high-power EV chargers. Initially, BYD Flash Charging will be available at selected Denza showrooms.

More premium and comfortable interior 

Inside, we can expect several improvements, including a new centre console with two 50W wireless charging pads, a column-mounted gear selector instead of a crystal gear shifter. Other expected bits are power-adjustable third-row seats, a new 16-speaker Devialet sound system, and a new black interior colour option.

Enhanced safety and suspension 

The new Denza D9 may also come with nine airbags, a Child Presence Detection system, and a DiSus-C adaptive suspension for improved ride comfort.
