BYD Malaysia welcomes Jacob Ma as new managing director

KUALA LUMPUR: Jacob Ma is the new Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, overseeing both the BYD and Denza brands. He succeeded Eagle Zhao, who will now handle the role of President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia. 

This strategic leadership transition reflects the automaker’s continued commitment to strengthening its leadership team across Southeast Asia. while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a key growth market in the region. 

Jacob Ma brings extensive global experience from BYD headquarters in Shenzhen. His previous experiences include 

• Head of Training at BYD HQ for five years 
• Vice President at BYD Indonesia for two years
• Worked as a consultant in the aviation industry, with experience in technology transfer initiatives, cross-industry collaboration and operational transformation

In Malaysia, Jacob will oversee overall business strategy, sales, marketing, network development, and after-sales operations for both brands. He will focus on long-term market competitiveness by -

• Strengthening dealer partnerships
• Expanding the product portfolio
• Enhancing brand differentiation between BYD and DENZA

Upon taking up the new role, Jacob Ma said, “I am honoured to take on this responsibility at such an exciting time for BYD Malaysia.

Our focus will be on reinforcing operational excellence, elevating customer experience, and ensuring sustainable growth for both BYD and DENZA, he added.

As Jacob takes up the new role, Eagle Zhao leaves behind a strong foundation. He played a significant role in establishing the brand’s strong foothold in the country, delivering over 30k vehicles nationwide. Under his leadership, the company accelerated the adoption of NEVs, expanded the dealer network and strengthened aftersales capabilities, making BYD one of the fastest-growing EV brands in the country.
