The Nissan Almera might belong to the most entry-level price point of compact sedans. However, given its nice length and wheelbase dimensions, the Almera has a good road presence with longer footprints on the surface. Thanks to this road presence, the Nissan Almera has got the aura of a ‘big car’ which a person generally upgrading from a compact hatchback to a sedan demands from his new bigger car.
Thanks to a much longer wheelbase, the Nissan Almera offers best in class rear seat experience, which some of the sedans from one category could also not provide. With great legroom and knee room and good under-thigh support, the rear passengers are being offered good comfort levels in the Almera.
With a bigger focus on comfort for the passengers, the Nissan Almera also is praiseworthy for the plush ride quality it offers. The suspension is on a softer side, which works wonders while driving over broken sections of the tarmac.
While the Nissan Almera has the stance and dimensions of a big sedan, the interior cabin design, fit and finish are something which dulls out the overall experience. The dashboard feels low rent with a dated design, while at the same time, the choice of materials also feel as if they are built to cost.
Despite being positioned as a sedan which offers a suitable upgrade from a compact hatchback, the Nissan Almera lacks a number of premium features which nowadays are present in all of their competitors. Features like LEDs and a modern touch screen infotainment system are some things which are considered a necessity in a sedan, and the Nissan Almera lacks a number of them.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Nissan Almera lacks the punch and feels dull when revved hard. The engine gets its job done, but the driving enthusiasts might not be impressed with its boring power delivery.

The Nissan Almera is the manufacturer’s mainstay car in most countries. While here in Malaysia, its called the Almera, in other regions it’s also called the Sunny. It is based on the Micra/March hatchback. This 2018 Nissan Almera has had few changes from the outgoing car vis-a-vis the new face, more chrome parts, and a spruced-up interior. There are four trims on offer - the Almera E MT, Almera E AT, Almera VL AT and the Almera Nismo. Competition includes the ever dependable Honda City, Kio Rio sedan, Toyota Vios, Proton Persona as well as the Volkswagen Vento.
The centre console of the Nissan Almera is done in a piano black finish. Front and rear power windows are standard across the range and so is the 4-speaker music system that supports AUX and USB inputs. There are multiple cubby holes around the cabin and while we believe beige colour would have amplified the amount of space this 5-seater has, it is sadly not offered. Nissan also doesn’t offer rear AC vents on the Almera, something which is available in the models sold outside Malaysia. This is a big miss in our books since the back seat comfort of the Almera rivals that of cars above its segment. The automatic climate control offered in the VL AT trim cools the cabin real quick. We liked the high-quality cabin of the Nissan Almera. Everything out there seems well put together and durable too. The boot space is good enough for three airport suitcases. Its volume is 490-litre and the rear seats don't fold. On the top-spec VL AT, Nissan offers keyless entry, push-button start and steering mounted audio controls.
The new Nissan Almera is still based on the versatile V platform. The Nissan Almera is 4,432mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,500mm tall. The ground clearance is 160mm. Salient design elements that are different from the outgoing model include the new chrome grille, LED DRLs, the new alloys and the slightly altered tail section. Speaking of alloys, Nissan retains the 185 section 15-inch wheels with all the trims except for the Nismo. For this performance-oriented trim, Nissan has given glossy 16-inch alloys with slightly fatter section rubber. In fact for the Nismo trim, one can opt for a dual tone colour, louder exhaust, fancy body kit and more.
The Nissan Almera rides on independent McPherson struts front and back. The suspension set up is on the softer side and this shows the way the Almera glides over bumps. The cabin is relatively noise-free, however, at high speeds the engine as well as road noise does tend to seep in. While the ride quality of the car is commendable, the handling is a bit on the relaxed side. That the car has been set up for comfort is quite evident in the way it turns around corners. The steering is light but doesn’t way up significantly when the speeds rise. Ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear constitute the brakes. They have ample bite and are progressive in nature.
Nissan offers a lone 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with the Almera. This naturally aspirated motor makes 102 PS of power and 139 Nm of torque. It can be optioned with either a 5-speed manual or a conventional 4-speed automatic. Nissan claims a fuel efficiency of 14.9 kmpl from this engine and they aren’t far off the mark. In our combined economy tests, the Nissan Almera returned close to 14 kmpl. The gearshifts on the manual trim feel a tad rubbery in execution while the clutch itself is light in operation. The automatic transmission in the meanwhile feels old school and along with the not so rev-happy nature of the petrol motor, makes for a relaxed commuter. In our top speed runs, the Nissan Almera maxed out at 168 kmph.
Nissan’s globally acclaimed V platform forms the basis of the Almera. This configuration has proven its mettle before with good crash safety ratings. The new Nissan Almera gets a four-star rating. That being said, Nissan offers only a driver airbag in the E trims while the VL gets a passenger airbag too. ABS along with EBD is standard across the range. Child ISOFIX mounting points too are standard. This along with child lock constitute the safety features of the new Nissan Almera.
My son had just graduated college and he got the best job offer in his class, to celebrate his big news, I wanted to give him a special gift. I decided that it would be a car and after a lot of research, I picked the Nissan Almera. This car is compact and perfect for city driving, it is still
If you need an affordable sedan that is fuel-efficient and economical, the Nissan Almera is a great choice. Unlike most other cars in the segment, the Almera is stylish with a unique and interesting appearance and does not look boring. The engine is pretty decent in terms of performance and delivers some unbelievable fuel economy figures. With a range of
I came across this car from one of my friend's suggestions. Luckily I have friends who are equally into the search for new releases of wheels in the market like me. Honestly this car is everything I could readily die for. What an amazing production! Although crafted by the Japanese manufacturers, the car has been designed with ample attributes to
Affordable and fuel consumption is excellent , Have sporty and elegant looks. Highly recommended 👍🏻 Satisfied with this car performance, interior and exterior .
My choice has always been the Nissan Almera over a Hyundai or Honda because it is a lot classier in terms of the design and all. People may say that the Honda is better in terms of the power and everything but the thing is, the difference in power is just 20 PS, which does not make any difference when
If you have always wanted to travel in a car with unlimited space just like me then I am sure you will also love the Nissan Almera. I have been tired of driving small cars for many years, and Almera was more like a welcome change for me. Even for a person who is 5 feet tall, this car is
There are only a very few cars that I would actually recommend to people who are buying a car for the first time. Nissan Almera is definitely one of them. The car strikes the right balance between being high in utility, power and price. The way the Almera is made for efficiency and apt power for daily commuting is good.
The executive sedan is dominated by the Honda City, wherever it goes. The car has become a sort of a benchmark. But the Nissan Almera lives up to expectations. I have driven the Almera and the City and can say that both cars match up pretty well. The Almera offers a comfortable ride in its roomy cabin. The car’s interior
Nissan is one of my favorite car brands, while sedans are usually what I prefer to buy. So, when Nissan came up with the Almera, I was on the night cloud. Almera has gained a lot of popularity ever since it was launched in the market back in 2012. Its large headlamp with a decent three-bar front grille gives it
The new ALMERA is miles ahead in the styling as compared to the previous bubble style. I have an orange coloured ALMERA. Lookswise its much sharper appears to be quite bigger as compared to its segment. The dual coloured dashboard looks very nice and the legroom is also excellent as it comfortably fits my brother who is around 200cm. It
