BYD ATTO 2 launched in Malaysia – Compact EV priced at RM100,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The latest addition to Malaysia’s electric vehicle scene has arrived. BYD Sime Motors today introduced the BYD ATTO 2, a compact electric SUV that sits below the ATTO 3 in the lineup, targeted primarily at young drivers and EV newcomers.

The ATTO 2 is one of the brand's most accessible model to date in Malaysia. Priced at an astonishing RM100,000, it brings a mix of style, performance, and convenience in a package designed to appeal to  urban commuters and those who dare to adventure beyond.

The car itself is a front-wheel drive compact SUV powered by a 130 kW (177PS) motor producing 290 Nm of torque, good for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

It uses BYD’s 51.13 kWh Blade Battery, offering up to 410 km of range (NEDC). AC charging is rated at 7 kW via a Type 2 port, while DC fast charging (CCS2) can go up to 82 kW.

Inside, the ATTO 2 is equipped with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen that supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There’s also wireless charging, synthetic leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats. Safety kit includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and an ADAS suite.

Cargo space with the rear seats folded goes up to 1,320 litres, and it rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60R17 tyres.

The ATTO 2 is available in three exterior colours—Ski White, Breeze Green, and Harbour Grey—all matched to a black interior.

To celebrate the launch, BYD Sime Motors is offering an Easy Ownership Package worth up to RM13,500 for the first 800 customers.

Aside from the charging options, this bundle includes complimentary accessories like a Type 2 portable charging cable and a V2L (vehicle-to-load) adapter.

The vehicle also comes with a 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and 8-year/150,000 km drive unit warranty. Here's an easy to read of what's on offer.

According to Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Motors, the new EV isn't just about getting people into electric cars—it’s about changing how Malaysians experience EV ownership. “The BYD ATTO 2 is more than just a vehicle—it’s a lifestyle model built on innovation, designed to connect with a new generation of Malaysians,” he said. “We’re rethinking how Malaysians can own and enjoy an EV by making it more accessible, flexible and convenient.”

To that end, BYD Sime Motors is offering an “Easy Ownership” initiative. This includes flexible payment schemes via panel banks and a choice of charging support: either a complimentary wall charger for landed homes or a 12-month mobile charging service package—called Sime Platinum 4+—for those living in high-rises. The latter includes door-to-door mobile charging up to four times a month, basic car grooming, and emergency EV rescue services.

Power Up, the company’s charging partner, is said to be the first in the country to provide mobile EV charging directly to customers’ homes.

Also present at the launch was Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, who positioned the ATTO 2 as a practical, stylish and tech-savvy option for younger buyers.

“With the BYD ATTO 2, we've created an EV that speaks to the needs of young drivers and first-time EV users in the country, coupling BYD's innovative edge with today's trend-setting lifestyle features,” Zhao said. “It embodies the spirit of versatility, practicality and style synonymous with our brand.”

The BYD ATTO 2 joins a growing EV lineup for the brand in Malaysia, which now includes the ATTO 3, SEAL, SEALION 7, Dolphin, and M6.

Given how close it is in price to the BYD Dolphin, the arrival of the ATTO 2 raises questions about the hatchback’s long-term future in Malaysia — it wouldn’t be surprising if the Dolphin gradually gets phased out.

It also marks another step in BYD Sime Motors’ goal to increase accessibility to EVs, as the company looks to expand its retail footprint to 60 outlets nationwide by 2026.

The ATTO 2 will be open for public viewing and test drives from July 25 to 27 at Heritage Valley, with the event running daily from 9 AM to 7 PM.
