2018 Ducati Monster 1200 25th anniversary model, limited to only 500 units

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ducati Monster has always been a special bike, as back in the 1990s it saved the company from acute revenue problems. Launched in 1992, Ducati is now celebrating Monster’s 25th anniversary. How? By producing 500 units of the limited edition bike called the 2018 Ducati Monster 1200.

The Monster 1200 25th Anniversary model enters Europe in September. Whereas in Japan, the United States, and Australia, it will arrive in October, November, and December respectively. However, the orders can be placed at all the authorised Ducati dealerships.

Ducati Monster that holds special meaning to the boys from Bologna has undergone a sea of changes with respect to its engine capacities and several iterations. In Monster 1200, the braking will be taken care by the Italian manufacturer Brembo that has employed M50 Monobloc calipers, 320mm floating discs on the front wheel in addition to a 245mm single disc at the rear side for the job. Apart from this, Ohlins takes care of suspension throughout with steering damper, monoshock, and a 48mm fully-adjustable fork.

Engine

As far as the engine is concerned, the Monster 1200 embraces the same Testastretta 11DS 1,198cc engine that powers the current model. This said mill produces 147 hp at 9,250rpm and 124 Nm of torque at 7,750rpm. Also, the 25th-anniversary edition would come stocked with riding supplies like - Ducati Quick Shift Up Down (DQS) for clutchless up and down gear shifts, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), and Bosch cornering ABS. These features are also available in the current Monster 1200 25th Anniversary model.

Design

Coming down to the design, this time the Monster 1200 will come with an upgraded specification package. Inspired by the 2008 Monster S4RS Testastretta Tricolore, the anniversary edition Monster will be donning the same Italian Tri-Color emblazoned on the front and rear cowl, and tank. Furthermore, carbon-fibre is used at the front and rear for the mudguards, and the seat will carry an embroidered 25th Anniversary logo.

Colors

Painted in gold, the Marchesini forged wheels, and Ducati trellis frame is there to compliment the Italian Tricolor Flag. Strikingly for the mirrors, frame plugs, handlebar end weights, and the petrol cap machined billet aluminium is used. Whereas for the articulated brake, clutch levers, and single-sided swingarm, the current model uses aluminium.
