BMW M 1000 XR Prototype unveiled

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad has treated enthusiasts with a slight glimpse of the highly-anticipated M 1000 XR prototype. The latest model is designed to meet riders' demand for a high-performance, long-distance capabilities motorcycle (both on the road and race track).

BMW M 1000 XR Prototype: Key details

• It showcases the brand’s strategy of incorporating the renowned M brand (racing success and high-performance nature) into its motorcycle lineup
• After M RR and MR, the M 1000 XR arrival solidifies BMW Motorrad’s commitment to offering independent M models
• Powering the all-new M 1000 XR is an inline four-cylinder mill shared with the S 1000 RR superbike. The unit delivers over 200 hp, thanks to BMW’s innovative ShiftCam technology

• The motorcycle weighs 223 kg which is quite surprising seeing its impressive performance figures
• The motorcycle blurs the line between track-oriented and long-distance motorcycles, thanks to the purpose-built chassis tech, advanced control electronics, and aerodynamics
• For added performance, the motorcycle gets an optional M Competition Package which offers enhanced riding dynamics and additional weight reduction
• The top speed of the prototype is rated at 280 kmph
  Increased downforce helps the prototype achieve superior stability at high speed

• Part of the kit also includes improved traction and reduced wheelie tendencies during acceleration
• A quicker lap time can be achieved via the better wheel and road contact
• The bike’s control is enhanced via its ergonomic seating position
  Optimum braking performance is offered via the M brake system which features a signature blue anodized coating (derived from BMW Motorrad’s Superbike World Championship racing machines)
