RS150R Pros & Cons

Things We Like in RS150R

For new age riders, the Honda RS150R feels nimble and agile, thanks to the slim profile of the overall moped and taller wheels. The bike feels comfortable to steer in tight traffic conditions, making it riding quite an easy task for those who are new to riding.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, 150cc engine with which the Honda RS150R is equipped with offers best in class performance numbers. The 15.6 PS of maximum power and 13.6Nm of peak torque gives it performance figures comparable to a premium 150cc commuter motorcycle.

Things We Dont Like in RS150R

The overall design of the Honda RS150R looks plain, and while the moped is blessed with loud graphics and eye-catching colour options, the RS150R lacks many modern features to make it feel updated and trendy to catch the attention of young buyers.

For a city oriented daily commuter ride, the Honda RS150R lacks proper luggage hooks as well as a good under seat storage space to hold small things or even a half face helmet with ease.

Recent Updates of RS150R

The Honda RS150R might not be the best looking and feature-packed option in the segment, however, it does the just as well if not better than its competitors. Thanks to the bold graphics and a sporty-ish structure, the Honda RS150R does a fair job in grabbing the eyeballs. As far as the power is concerned, the Honda RS150R houses a 149.7 cc four-valve fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC motor that makes 15.6 hp and 13.5 Nm. There is a 6-speed gearbox, 4.5-litre fuel tank, and the Honda RS150R can go up to 122 kmph. A few downsides of the Honda RS150R include small under-seat storage, no proper luggage hooks, and a little too simple appearance. The Honda RS150R is priced at RM 7,999.

For being such a niche segment, the performance kapchai segment in the Malaysian two-wheeler market is especially competitive. But probably the strongest competitor at present is the one from Honda’s stable – The RS150R. Launched in 2016, the bike is a new direction for Honda. This is their most powerful underbone ever made. And true to Honda's tradition, it quickly gained popularity among the youth as the best performance underbones in the market. The manufacturer has given the supercub a new coat of paint with 4 new options including one directly inspired by the Repsol Honda team colors. Although the updated version of RS150R is already on sale in the Philippines, we might have to wait a bit more for its entry in the local market.

The Honda is a performance underbone and the design does not hide it. Just look at that rear section hanging in midair. Check out how the slim fairing wraps around the front and the cooling louvres at the bottom of the fairing. The Honda also comes with double stacked LED headlights, a stepped seat, a giant silencer and thin spindly alloys on thick grippy looking tires. There are edgy surfaces and angular design elements everywhere. The dimensions are 2025 (L) mm x 725 (W) mm x 1105 (H) mm. The seat height is 764 mm while the wheelbase is 1276mm. Combined with high and wide handlebars, these dimensions give a comfortable seating position that is not too high for Asian bodies. Wide handlebars and upright seating mean that it is easy to handle at slow speeds. There are 17” alloys on both ends shod with 90/80-17 46P tires on the front and 120/70 58P tires on the rear. Instrumentation uses a gigantic analog tachometer along with a similarly huge interactive digital display that serves as the tripmeter, speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and clock. There is a small under-seat storage area too. There are 4 color options to choose from, the best of which has to be the Repsol Honda Edition that comes with orange wheels. It does, however, come at a tiny bit higher price.

Ride & Handling

The engine rests in a welded construction twin-perimeter frame. There are non-adjustable telescopic forks in the front and a Kayaba monoshock in the rear. The upright seating position and the weight of the bike at a portly 122 kg mean that the bike is more at ease on the highway. However, the seat is a bit too narrow and lacks adequate cushioning.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The engine in the Honda is a refined Euro 3 compliant 149.7 cc four valve fuel injected and water cooled DOHC unit that produces 15.6 hp at 9000 rpm and 13.5 Nm peak torque at 6500 rpm. The transmission uses a 6-speed gearbox with a final drive through the chain. Being a Honda engine, it is the most refined of the lot. Your ass and your wrist will thank the lack of vibrations from the engine on long rides. It is also bulletproof as shown by the couple who took their bike on a 6 month long around the world trip across 25 countries last year. The gearing makes the power delivery snatchy and may take some getting used to. The 6th gear is an overdrive and not something that will push its top speed even higher. The top speed for that matter easily reaches up to 122 kmph. The 4.5-litre fuel tank is good enough for little over 120 km range.

Braking & Safety

Braking is handled by hydraulic discs. There are 296 mm discs on the front and 190 mm on the rear wheel both clamped by single piston calipers respectively.

I like the colour scheme on the Honda RS150R and the graphics too. The design bits is what attracts a lot of buyers, including me. The golden touch on the alloy wheels is another attractive touch. Plus, when it comes to the specifications, it does not disappoint there too. I never thought the cub class bikes can be fun and sporty to look at, until I saw the Honda RS 150 R for the very first time. The Honda RS 150R can outrun any similarly spec 150cc motorcycle when it comes to sheer visual appeal, as the aggressive body work and bold graphics give it a trendy look. Then, Read More

    Mikail Okt 18, 2019 for Honda RS150R

To be frank, initially, I was a bit skeptical about the RS 150R. Its looks, the big headlamp, and the overall stance just fail to give it a strong road presence. However, after going on a test ride, I realized the pros. The biggest is its compact size and lightweight nature, all this came in handy for me, a first-time Read More

I purchased this for my wife after a lot of market research, and seeing her happy means it did a good job. I too ride it on occasions, and it is a reliable companion. There are several things I like about it - the control it offers, engine refinement, and power. Its150 cc powerplant pushes enough power and torque. Once, Read More
