RS150R Pros & Cons

Things We Like in RS150R

For new age riders, the Honda RS150R feels nimble and agile, thanks to the slim profile of the overall moped and taller wheels. The bike feels comfortable to steer in tight traffic conditions, making it riding quite an easy task for those who are new to riding.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, 150cc engine with which the Honda RS150R is equipped with offers best in class performance numbers. The 15.6 PS of maximum power and 13.6Nm of peak torque gives it performance figures comparable to a premium 150cc commuter motorcycle.

Things We Dont Like in RS150R

The overall design of the Honda RS150R looks plain, and while the moped is blessed with loud graphics and eye-catching colour options, the RS150R lacks many modern features to make it feel updated and trendy to catch the attention of young buyers.

For a city oriented daily commuter ride, the Honda RS150R lacks proper luggage hooks as well as a good under seat storage space to hold small things or even a half face helmet with ease.

As for the suspension setup, you get non-adjustable telescopic forks at the front and single shock at the rear. Braking is provided by a 296mm disc at the front and 190 mm disc at the rear. RS150R Overview

Being one of the strongest contenders in the performance kapchai segment, the Honda RS150R touched the Malaysian shores in 2016. This is the most powerful underbone motorcycle ever made by Honda. And just like other Honda models, it quickly gained popularity among the youth as the best performance underbones in the market. Over the years, the supercub has not received any significant update apart from new color options, including a unique REPSOL edition shade inspired by the Repsol Honda team colors. Although an updated version of RS150R is available in the Philippines, we are likely to wait a bit more. Yamaha Y15ZR, Benelli RFS150i, and SYM VF3i are among its main competitors in the Malaysian market.

Honda RS150R Design

Even though the RS150R is an underbone motorcycle, it does not mean it is boring and dull. Instead, Honda has put in a lot of effort to make the vehicle stand-out in the crowd. Honda RS150R comes with double-stacked LED headlight, a stepped seat, and thin spindly alloys on thick grippy looking tires. It looks quite sporty from every angle.

The slim fairing wraps around the front feature a sharper design with a faux air intake. On the sides, the bike continues to flaunt its sporty character with sharp fairings featuring attractive bold graphics and decals. Even the tail section has been designed to keep things alive.

The RS150R measures 2025 mm in length, 725 mm in width, and 1105 mm in height. The seat height is 764 mm, while the wheelbase is 1276 mm. Combined with high and wide handlebars, these dimensions give a comfortable seating position that is not too high for Asian bodies. With wide handlebars and upright seating, RS150R is easy to handle at slow speeds.

Instrumentation incorporates a gigantic analog tachometer and a huge interactive digital display that serves as the trip meter, speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and clock. There is a small under-seat storage area too.

Along with Repsol shade, the bike comes in 4 color options, the best of which is Repsol Honda Edition fitted with orange wheels, though at a slightly higher price.

RS150R Ride & Handling

The RS150R’s engine rests in a welded construction twin-perimeter frame. The suspension setup has been tuned to provide a plush and comfortable ride. To be specific, there are non-adjustable telescopic forks in the front and a Kayaba monoshock in the rear. The setup soaks in bumps and potholes pretty well. Since the bike weighs just 122 kg, riding it through the crowded streets is convenient. However, the seat is a bit narrow and lacks adequate cushioning.

Honda RS150R Engine & Fuel Consumption

Powering the Honda RS150R is a refined Euro 3 compliant 149.7-cc water-cooled DOHC unit generating 15.6 hp of power at 9000 rpm and 13.5 Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a final drive through the chain. It is also equipped with a fuel injection system so the riders can experience crisp and precise throttle response.

Being a Honda engine, it is the most refined of the lot that lacks vibrations even on long rides. It is also bulletproof, as shown by the couple who took their bike on a 6-month long trip across 25 countries last year. The gearing makes the power delivery snatchy and may take some getting used to. The sixth gear is an overdrive and not something that will push its top speed even higher. The top speed for that matter is rated at 122 kmph. The 4.5-litre fuel tank is good enough for a little over 120 km range.

RS150R Braking & Safety

The braking is handled by hydraulic discs. There are 296 mm discs on the front and 190 mm on the rear wheel, both clamped by single-piston calipers. The overall braking performance of RS150R is pretty impressive.

Honda RS150R Verdict

For its price of RM 7,999, the Honda RS150R is quite a competent bike that worth the money as an excellent daily commuter. It emphasizes on refinement and comfort without giving up on performance and styling. It promises to keep up with the rider's energy and sportiness.

The Honda RS150R has been my daily commuter, thanks to the superb performance and efficient mileage return of this moped. Talking about the design, I am very pleased with the overall sporty design and the digital instrument console. I have always had the impression that underbone scooters were meant to be boring in design and efficient in performance. Well, the Honda RS150R changed my opinion. I still don’t own one yet but use my elder brother’s one. It looks very appealing to me, especially with all of its styling graphics and the colourful appeal. What I love best Read More

The Honda RS150R has the usual ‘kapchai’ design elements and a step-through frame. The seat height is rather low at 764mm which makes the bike easier to ride for new riders. The handlebars are set at a comfortable angle and you don’t need to reach out for them like many of the RS150R’s competitors. Performance is just adequate for a Read More

The snazzy and slim appearance of the Honda RS150R is something which was a deal maker for me, when I decided to go for it. The bike with its sharp looks and loud decals make it look not so boring at all, which I have an impression about many other under-bone bikes. The alloy wheels are large and prove very Read More

I like the colour scheme on the Honda RS150R and the graphics too. The design bits is what attracts a lot of buyers, including me. The golden touch on the alloy wheels is another attractive touch. Plus, when it comes to the specifications, it does not disappoint there too. I never thought the cub class bikes can be fun and sporty to look at, until I saw the Honda RS 150 R for the very first time. The Honda RS 150R can outrun any similarly spec 150cc motorcycle when it comes to sheer visual appeal, as the aggressive body work and bold graphics give it a trendy look. Then, Read More

To be frank, initially, I was a bit skeptical about the RS 150R. Its looks, the big headlamp, and the overall stance just fail to give it a strong road presence. However, after going on a test ride, I realized the pros. The biggest is its compact size and lightweight nature, all this came in handy for me, a first-time Read More

I purchased this for my wife after a lot of market research, and seeing her happy means it did a good job. I too ride it on occasions, and it is a reliable companion. There are several things I like about it - the control it offers, engine refinement, and power. Its150 cc powerplant pushes enough power and torque. Once, Read More
