Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Review

Abhishek Katariya says

Abhishek Katariya

The Suzuki GSX-R1000 has an illustrious record as the flagship supersport motorcycle from Suzuki all these years. Even today, the current-generation Suzuki GSX-R1000 is one of the best-litre-class super sport motorcycles you can buy in the market today, matching the expectations of several riders in the aspects of performance and riding dynamics. One of the most rider-friendly super sport motorcycles you can buy, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 is available in three colour options – Metallic Triton Blue with Metallic Mystic Silver, Metallic Matt Black and Glass Sparkle Black.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Design

The Suzuki GSX-R1000 is existing in the market for almost half a decade now, but even today, it manages to rank as one of the best-looking and proportionate designs you can have in the litre-class supersport category. The motorcycle looks muscular, yet sleek enough to not intimidate the new riders.

At the front, the huge fairing of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 gets a rather small and sleek-looking headlamp, which looks inspired by that of the first-generation Hayabusa. The headlamp is now an all-LED unit and is flanked by sharp-looking air vents with strips of daytime running LEDs over it. Like the front fairing, even the fairing-mounted rear view mirrors and windshield above are designed aerodynamically.

The side panels of the front fairing, along with the muscular fuel tank, make the Suzuki GSX-R1000 look sporty and big. The side panels partially cover the black-themed engine, from which the four-into-one exhaust pipe emerges. This side-mounted exhaust pipe looks massive and adds visual bulk to the otherwise slim design of the motorcycle towards the rear.

The slim and pointy tail section of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 accommodates a split seat arrangement, with the motorcycle having one of the biggest pillion seats among the litre-class supersport motorcycles. At the back of the Suzuki GSX-R1000, there is a slim-looking, vertically-aligned LED tail lamp and a small rear fender, on which the LED turn indicators are mounted.

The instrument console of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 might not be the most modern unit out there in its segment, but it scores full marks in the amount of information it provides. Apart from this nice-looking full-LCD unit, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 gets clip-on handlebars which are placed just at the right angle, giving the motorcycle a proper sporty riding stance.

GSX-R 1000 Ride & Handling

For a supersport motorcycle, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 is quite convenient when it comes to the rest of the mechanical hardware. The flagship litre class motorcycle from Suzuki gets upside-down telescopic hydraulic forks from Showa at the front and a link-type monoshock from Showa at the rear. Compared to the previous generation model, the twin-spar aluminium frame of this Suzuki GSX-R1000 is compact and narrower. Riding on a 120/70 ZR17 tyre at the front and a 190/55 ZR17 tyre at the rear, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 gets twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the rear.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Engine & Fuel Consumption

Powering the Suzuki GSX-R1000 is the most powerful litre-class engine Suzuki has ever produced. Derived from the Moto-GP spec motorcycle, the four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-four, 999cc engine of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 features bits like a thinner wall, hollow camshafts operating lighter, titanium valves and F1-style pivoting finger followers and Suzuki Racing VVT (SR-VVT), Suzuki Exhaust Tuning-Alpha (SET-A) and Suzuki Top Feed Injector (S-TFI) systems. With these technological bits, the engine produces 200 PS of maximum power and 117.6 Nm of maximum torque output and is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox.

GSX-R 1000 Braking & Safety

While the Suzuki GSX-R1000 is not as densely equipped as other motorcycles in its segment, it ticks all the boxes when it comes to offering the essentials. The list of safety features and electronics in the Suzuki GSX-R1000 includes a six-directional IMU, bi-directional quick shifter, dual-channel cornering ABS, three riding modes, 10-level traction control and launch control.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Verdict

The Suzuki GSX-R1000 might not be the best-equipped motorcycle or the one which employs the latest technologies in the industry. But even then, it ends up as a highly desirable motorcycle which serves the core aspects of design, handling, performance and braking very efficiently.
