Things we like

Ford, being one of the pioneers in making lifestyle premium pickup trucks, definitely knows a thing or two in making good looking pickup trucks. The Ranger, with its all American brute looks, indeed looks macho and muscular, especially at the front. The frontal looks shared with the Ford Everest SUV looks intimidating.

In addition to the exterior design, even the interior cabin of the Ford Ranger feels plush and solidly built. While the instrument console in the Ford Ranger feels quite comprehensive and futuristic, the presence of some of the premium features shared with the Ford Everest indeed makes the Ford Ranger a happy place to be in.

A pickup truck deserves a powerful heart to give it a go anywhere ability, and the Ford Ranger is blessed with one. Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine shared with the Everest, the Ranger feels mighty on road with an adequate punch to go on and off the road with equal prowess – something which is assisted by the fantastic four wheel drive as well.

Despite being a car meant for masses, the Honda Civic looks absolutely smashing. The blended looks of a coupe and a luxury saloon have worked wonders for the Honda Civic, as the car does manage to turn many heads with its sharp and eye-catching sporty design.

While it is not as futuristic and ahead of its times on the inside as the eighth generation version was, the current tenth generation version of the Honda Civic still is very modern and feature-rich on the inside. You do get all the comfort and convenience features on the inside which one would expect from a midsize sedan of this category.

Honda has always plonked in the best of VTEC technology in the Honda Civic, and the current generation version is no different. Having the same 1.8-litre powertrain from the previous generation, the new Civic is also being offered with an optional 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which promises the thrills of a 2.4-litre engine.

Things we don't like

While the engine surprises you with the amount of power it packs in, the levels of refinement, especially in the higher rpms. The engine sounds noisy and gruffy, which despite having a good sound insulation system, makes its presence felt inside the cabin with its loudness.

Being a pickup truck with quite a high ground clearance, the Ford Ranger has not that great and plush ride quality. The suspension is good enough to eat up all the undulations on the tarmac with ease, however, it is not plush to keep the inner occupants comfortable.

As with the previous generation, while the Civic feels large on the inside, the rear seat cabin doesn’t feel as it belongs to a car of this class. The legroom and knee room are only decent, while the headroom is at a premium due to the sloping roofline.

While the 1.8-litre petrol engine is pretty good in terms of outright power, the CVT gearbox robs the driving fun a little bit, as the long rubber-band effect of the CVT minimizes the thrill of the power delivery. The paddle shifters, however, do try hard to spice up the things a little bit.
