Two new BMW superbikes on the horizon, M1000RR & M 1000 R

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that BMW Motorrad introduced the all-new and updated S1000RR and now the manufacturer has more to offer.

Now, part of the company’s lineup is an exceptional motorcycle, the M1000RR. For those who aren’t aware of the ‘M’ application in the model's name, it suggests the units are being developed for racing purposes and support BMW Motorrad's World Superbike Championship (WSBK) ambitions.

The company also introduced a second model in the two-wheel M Motorsport lineup and the first M Roadster, called the 2023 BMW M 1000 R.

In its media statement, BMW Motorrad said the M 1000 RR was “developed to set a new milestone in the field of superbikes homologated for racing.”

Christian Gonschor, Project Management M 1000 RR said,
“We have achieved an engineering masterpiece in the aerodynamic development of the M RR due to our unwavering ambition, total passion, and technical finesse.”

He added “Thanks to countless hours in the wind tunnel as well as in road tests, we were able to considerably increase the top speed with unchanged engine output and at the same time significantly increase the downforce, also when banking in corners. Our development work will be rewarded with racing success.”

Key highlights -

• Powering the M 1000 RR is a 999cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine making 205hp and 113 Nm
• An evolution of the S 1000 RR, it features longer Pankl titanium connecting rods and shorter intake funnels
• It gets the latest gen Dynamic Traction Control DTC & DTC wheelie function with 6-axis sensor box, Hill Start Control Pro, Launch Control, M bRAKES & ABS Pro with Race ABS
• Four ride modes (Rain, Race, Road, and Dynamic) and three ‘Pro’ race modes

• Part of the kit is Shift Assistant Pro for fast upshifts and downshifts without using the clutch, two adjustable throttle characteristics, a slip/assist clutch
• M Billet Package with M Rider Footrest System, M Folding Brake Lever, M Folding Clutch Lever, M Brake Lever Guard
• M Carbon Package including M Carbon front and rear fenders, M Carbon Passenger Seat Cover, M Aero Wheel Cover, M Carbon tank covers left and right, M Airbox Cover, and more
• The superbike also features a new rear section, Ergonomic M Endurance seat, modified wiring harness, and short license plate bracket

Priced at $32,995 (approx. RM 154,582), the new BMW M 1000 RR is offered in a striking Light White non-metallic hue and Blackstorm Metallic in M 1000RR M Competition version.

Ralf Mölleken, Project Manager of 4-cylinder models said the all-new BMW M 1000 R will offer a “dynamic riding experience in the roadster segment previously reserved for superbikes.”

He further added, “The M R is the second M model from BMW Motorrad. Based on the current S1000RR and S 1000 RR, the product substance of the M 1000 R – M R for short – has been tuned to meet the specific requirements of a supersport roadster. The riding dynamics speak for themselves both on the country road and on the track.”

Key highlights -

• The new BMW M 1000 R gets its power from a 999cc water-cooled inline-four mill generating a max power of 205 hp along with a peak torque of 113 Nm
• It features four ride modes (Rain, Dynamic, Race, and Road) and three Pro race modes
• Like the M 1000 RR, this one also gets the latest generation of Dynamic Traction Control DTC and DTC wheelie function with 6-axis IMU, Dynamic Damping Control, Launch Control, and Hill Start Control Pro

• Its braking front comprises an M Brake system, ABS Pro with Race ABS, and Brake Slide Assist.
• The superbike specs sheet features optimized intake with variable intake funnels, M Endurance chain, sport exhaust with titanium rear silencer, M winglets and wind deflectors, aluminium forged alloy wheel, RDC tire pressure monitor, 6.5-inch TFT display, LED headlamp with illuminated M logo, and more
• M Competition Package includes a Passenger seat with passenger kit and seat cover, M GPS Laptrigger, and M Carbon wheels
• M Carbon Package features a B Carbon airbox cover, M Carbon tank covers left and right, M Carbon Chain Guard, and M Carbon front and rear fenders
• M Billet Package offers an M Rider Footrest System

The all-new 2023 BMW M 1000 R retails for $21,345 (RM 99,922) and is a single Light White non-metallic while the M Competition model comes in a Blackstorm Metallic tone.
