Two-wheeler manufacturers these days are trying to present a revamped version scooters just by introducing a wide array of colour schemes to add to the choice of the customer base. They do not feel the need to completely overhaul the functional dynamics and Honda has followed the same trend since the Wave Alpha was already gaining much popularity, the automaker thought not to make any major changes and launched a few paint schemes. The scooter is available in two variants, namely 'kapchai’ with spoked wheels and the other that runs on cast wheels. Both the variants have received a variety of new colour options. The former variant now comes in black, blue, or red colours and the latter is available in black, blue or yellow. Under the frame, the Wave Alpha comes with a 109.1cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power of 8.3 hp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 8.59 Nm at 5,500 rpm. It also houses a 3.7-litre fuel tank and a small under-seat storage space. Honda Wave Alpha currently locks horns with Suzuki Smash V115. The base is priced at RM 4500 and the sports edition costs about RM 500 more.
Talking about the design and aesthetics, we see no major changes have been housed on the Honda Wave Alpha 2020, except a few experiments with shades so bright, that they actually glow like butterflies in the sunlight. Under the chassis, it is almost the same ergonomics and the body contouring is also familiar to the older version. On the face, we see neat curves and lines that make the whole look sportier. One of the prominent features of the functional design is the sporty exhaust and the new grab rail on the rear. Dimension wise, the Wave Alpha measures at 1937mm (L) x 703mm (W) x 1086mm (H). The front fascia and top of the headlight cluster don the instrument panel which is of the same old design. The five-spoke black alloy and the black engine components, give a masculine appeal to the Alpha. Under the seat, there is plenty of storage area, and accommodating a full-size helmet is therefore easier. The front apron does a good job of protecting the rider’s legs from the wind.
The Wave Alpha is a cute, tiny two-wheeler structure that is best suited for busy city roads and short commutes. The suspension setup uses telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers in the rear that allow for comfortable rides curbing all the jerks and jolts on the way.
At the heart of Wave Alpha is an air-cooled and carbureted 4-Stroke SOHC 109.17cc single-cylinder engine that makes 6.14 kW at 7,500 rpm and 8.59 Nm of peak torque at 5500 rpm. The engine is extremely reliable and refined and this was the main reason behind the wide acclamation of Wave Alpha back in 2015. Also, the power churned out by the engine is enough to make it attain a top speed of 100-105 kmph and the fuel consumption figures are also above 55kmpl. With a four-speed transmission, Wave Alpha delivers smooth and powerful performance, enough to make it a desirable scooter. The new Wave is now Euro 3 compliant while also having the rating of an EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle). The under-bone is extremely lightweight of just 98 kg also helps in achieving these distinctions.
While the base version only gets drum brakes on both wheels, the higher-end variant gets a disc brake on the front. With this set-up, the braking and safety features are surely not top-notch but fair enough provided the price tag it comes with.
This is definitely one of the best bikes you can buy in Malaysia today. With its design, functionality, practicality and looks, Wave Alpha is the best buy with this price tag. An entry-level masterclass, the Wave Alpha from Honda is the best deal you get at its price. It is a complete package in terms of 110cc engine. I've ride this honda wave alpha for around 5 months and from my experience the fuel consumption is very efficient. From what i calculated, for every 1L i could reach to around 40km whereas a full tank i could reached around 120km - 130km before refuelling it.
Being one of the very first customers of the Honda Wave Alpha, I feel lucky enough to be an early user of this new cub class bike. Its simplicity is what makes it a decent choice for mature riders like, who are not after gadgetries and gimmicky features. However, the bold graphics and blackened theme ensure that it feels trendy.
For a commuter meant and designed for simple daily urban commutes, the Honda Wave Alpha suits the purpose with its compact feel and agility. This cub class bike doesn’t feel basic at all, much opposite to my low initial expectations from it. The sharp looking body panels, black theme for cycle parts and bold graphics make the Honda Wave Alpha
