Mini JCW updated with petrol particulate filter
KUALA LUMPUR: The MINI John Cooper Works has just received an update on its mechanism. This update concerns the addition of a particulate petrol filter, which would be made on the sports exhaust system. This has been done in order to comply with the WLTP and Euro 6d-TEMP emission norms.
Having said that, though most of the companies compromise on the performance to meet the emission norms, it is not the case with Mini. The particulate petrol filter would not affect the performance or even the fuel efficiency.
The MINI John Cooper Works has a 2.0-litre four-pot petrol engine with a turbocharger. This motor can churn out a maximum power of 231 hp and a peak torque of 320 Nm. These figures are much more than the 192 hp and 280 Nm of the Cooper S. The average fuel economy of the updates models is expected to be the same at around 16.5 kmpl.
The engine on the JCW has a conventional 6-speed manual that pleases the purists a lot, along with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic. However, though the hatchback model can make the 0-100 kmph acceleration in 6.3 seconds (6.1 seconds of the automatic), the convertible form take slightly longer to get to the same speed. With the extra weight of the roof mechanism, the Convertible can do the 0-100 kmph in 6.6 seconds.
The production of the updated MINI John Cooper Works is set to begin from March 2019. Following this, all of the MINI models with a petrol engine will be getting the particulate filter. However, besides just meeting the emission regulation norms, the filter will add a very characteristic sound to the exhaust system.
The updated MINI John Cooper Works will be up for bookings in the United Kingdom on January 18, 2019.
