The Yamaha YZF R15 has always been praised for the way it manages to appear a scaled-down version of the mighty Yamaha YZF R1. The new generation model surpasses its predecessor with much sharper visual appeal and much more modern features like fully digital meters and LED lights at front and rear.
The 155cc liquid-cooled, fuel injected engine with which the YZF R15 is blessed is a sweet engineering marvel. The engine is equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), which makes it feels much more responsive and refined as one would expect it from. In addition to it, the bump in power and torque outputs over its predecessor too is very praiseworthy.
The YZF R25, with its R6 inspired design and silhouette, manages to give the rider a big bike appeal which he expects from an entry level quarter liter sportsbike. The nicely sculpted and revised front fairing feels aerodynamic not only in a standstill, but while riding as well.
The new Yamaha YZF R25 comes with a revised list of features which makes it feel even more premium than what it earlier was. Things like a bigger fully digital instrument console as well as premium switchgear, along with LED headlights and taillights, give it a much-needed premium appeal which was slightly missing in the previous generation model.
The biggest problem of the previous generation Yamaha YZF R15 has been transferred to this new generation model as well – the pillion seat comfort. The pillion perch is positioned at quite a height, which makes it uncomfortable for longer rides
While the LED headlamps of the Yamaha YZF R15 look cool with their slim and minimalistic design, the throw of the light in night conditions is not that good. It requires much more brightness to make the visibility ahead much better in poor light conditions in night.
Apart from the front fairing, Yamaha has not introduced many changes to the rest of the design, in the side as well as at the rear, which doesn’t count the YZF R25 as an all-new machine.
While the parallel twin, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 250cc engine has no qualms as far as performance and refinement is concerned, we would have loved to see a bit more upgrade in power and torque numbers as they remain exactly the same as in previous generation model.
