Malaysia to ban the sale of mod parts for bikes?

KUALA LUMPUR: The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, reckons it's high time to ban the sale of mod parts for bikes, especially those noisy exhausts, right here in Malaysia.

As reported by Sinar Harian, Mohd Shuhaily is convinced that these mod kits are pretty much the fuel for the illegal racing fire.

He's calling on the politicos to step up and seal the deal on this one. Hey practically said, hey, MPs, let's put an end to this, okay? We're losing our young folks way before their time, and for all the wrong reasons.

"Motorcycles cannot be modified. Noisy pipes should not be sold anymore, but all of this can only be done with the decision of the politicians who make the laws."

Mohd Shuhaily also feels that even though the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has been on the tail of these daredevil riders for nearly four decades, they're kind of falling behind when it comes to laying down the law.

"We are increasingly falling behind in enforcing the law; in the past, we would apprehend them during 'racing', but over time, they crash into me, and both of us die." he added.

It seems Mohd Shuhaily is trying to think out of the box in solving a problem that has plagued Malaysian city streets for the longest of time.

Illegal motorcycle racing Malaysia

Illegal motorcycle racing, often referred to as "Mat Rempit" culture, has been a concern in Malaysia. While it's not accurate to say that Malaysia is "full" of illegal motorcycle races, this activity has been a notable issue in certain areas, particularly in urban and suburban regions.

The government and law enforcement agencies have taken various measures to address and reduce these illegal activities, focusing on enforcement, public awareness, and offering alternative avenues for youth to engage in legal and safe motorsport activities.

However, like many countries facing similar challenges, completely eradicating such activities is complex and requires ongoing efforts.
