Testing for KTM 890 SMT is underway

KUALA LUMPUR: KTM is working on a new 890 cc motorcycle, all this while working on an all-new 990 cc and 690 cc engine.

The testing for the motorcycle is currently underway in Spain as Cycle World spotted the new KTM live in action.

KTM’s 990 platform is considered a replacement for the current 889 cc engine and therefore the 890 SMT is considered to have a shorter shelf life before evolving to a 990 SMT.

Upcoming KTM 890 SMT - Key highlights

• It borrows several of its features from the 890 Adventure, gains a higher front mudguard and a taller windscreen
• The fuel tank is now singular and mounted above the engine
• The new fuel tank design is said to be a better fit for the SMT
• It features the exact same exhaust pipes as the one found on the 890 Adventure
• It is powered by the same 889cc LC8c engine the 890 Adventure
• It is expected to weigh similarly to the 890 Adventure
