Daiichi Megelli 250 RR Review 2024

Based on its naked roadster version, the Megelli 250 SR, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR is a fully-faired entry-level super-sport motorcycle from a relatively less-known brand of motorcycles, Daiichi. In the Malaysian two-wheeler market, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR is being offered in a single shade of white.

Daiichi Megelli 250 RR Design

Compared to its naked roadster version, the Megelli 250 SR, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR looks much more proportionate and good-looking. The addition of the full fairing at the front in place of the odd-looking compact cowl and headlamp of the Megelli 250 SR has completely transformed the look of the motorcycle. However, the fact that it looks much ‘inspired’ by an Italian motorcycle from the bygone era snatches its sense of individuality.

At the front, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR greets you with its nicely-styled full-fairing, which comes adorned with a wing-shaped dual-headlamp setup, both of which come integrated with halogen projectors. The overall shape of the headlamps and front fairing looks very much like the Ducati 1198 from the yesteryears. The full fairing at the front also comes attached with rearview mirrors and an aerodynamic windscreen at the top.

The side profile of the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR rectifies all the shortcomings of its naked roadster version, with the side panels of the front fairing covering the engine and the red-coloured trellis frame quite neatly. Like the 250 SR, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR also gets a red-coloured theme for the trellis frame and trellis swing-arm at the rear, which makes it look very Italian. The fairing also covers the radiator mounted ahead of the black-themed engine.

Apart from these elements, the slim-looking fuel tank, sporty-looking tail section with split seats above and hollows integrated into the sides, and red-coloured rear footrest holders are also retained from the 250 SR. Even at the back, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR gets the same LED tail lamp with a dual-port under-seat exhaust system below it. The motorcycle comes equipped with five-spoke black alloy wheels and petal disc brakes at both ends.

The rider’s cockpit of the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR also looks a bit different from that of the 250 SR. This fully-faired motorcycle comes with clip-on handlebars and a part-digital instrument console, the latter of which has been retained from the 250 SR. This unit includes an analogue tachometer with white background and a blue-backlit LCD panel for a digital speedometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge and a few other information. While the design looks much better here than the Megelli 250 SR, the build quality and fit and finish levels are still not up to the mark as those of the established motorcycles from global players.

Megelli 250 RR Ride & Handling

Apart from the engine, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR also shares other mechanicals with its naked roadster sibling, the 250 SR. It also gets conventional hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a state-of-the-art tubular trellis swing-arm with mono-shock at the rear. Riding on 100/70-17 front and 130/70-17 rear tyres, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR gets petal disc brakes at both ends. While the motorcycle weighs 122 kg, its seat height is 800mm.

Daiichi Megelli 250 RR Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Daiichi Megelli 250 RR retains the four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 249.6cc engine from its naked roadster sibling. Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, this engine produces 26 hp of maximum power and 22.8 Nm of maximum torque. However, the engine refinement and power delivery are not as smooth as one would have expected from it.

Megelli 250 RR Braking & Safety

Like the Daiichi Megelli 250 SR, its fully-faired sibling also misses out on crucial safety features and doesn’t get one, not even the crucial addition of ABS.

Daiichi Megelli 250 RR Verdict

The Daiichi Megelli 250 RR has succeeded in addressing one shortcoming of its naked roadster sibling, and that is its styling. The 250 RR looks quite Italian with a stand-out design, which makes it look very stylish. However, apart from it, the Daiichi Megelli 250 RR is sadly the same old motorcycle under the skin, with the engine and chassis leaving a lot to be desired.
