2020 Jeep Compass revealed, features a new engine and latest UConnect system

KUALA LUMPUR: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has given a mild update to Jeep Compass for the European markets. Initially built in Brazil, Mexico, China, and India, the automaker is now producing the Euro-spec Compass at the FCA plant in Melfi, Italy. The new Jeep Compass features new updated equipment and a new turbocharged petrol engine. Let’s have a closer look at the modifications:

The updated Compass houses a 1.3-litre gasoline engine in two output levels - 130 PS and 150 PS, while torque level remains the same at 270 Nm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, driving either the front or all four wheels. The new engine is said to be 30 percent more efficient on fuel than the ongoing model. 

The new Jeep Compass will be offered in five variants – Sport, Longitude, Mighty Eagle, Limited, and S. The first four houses the engine producing 130 PS while the S model gets 150 PS version.

Besides this, the new Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.6-litre diesel mill generating 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque. It is available on trims housing a six-speed manual gearbox turning just the front wheels. 

Moreover, there will be a new plug-in hybrid 4xe variant that is yet to be showcased. It will feature a 1.3-litre petrol engine mated with an electric motor to produce two states of tune - 190 PS and 240 PS, and it will only be offered in four-wheel-drive trim. Jeep also claims that the refreshed Compass will offer a better driving experience with its retuned handling and suspension.

The visual updates for the Italy-manufactured Compass are limited to new trim-specific wheel designs and five new exterior shades, including Ivory tri-coat, Colorado Red, Blue Italia, Blue Shade, and Techno Green metallic.

Inside the cabin, the Euro-spec Compass features the latest range of Uconnect functions with more connected car technology. The Uconnect services are segregated into various packages for different purposes:

• My Assistant: It comprises car telematics & Jeep assistance.
• My Remote: Allows remote monitoring and locking/unlocking of the vehicle, excluding engine start.
• My Navigation: It enables users to set destination from phone to onboard satellite navigation system.

However, it continues with the 7.0-inch and 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment systems. 

The price of the new Jeep Compass has not yet been revealed. Regarding availability, it is expected to hit the European dealerships this month; and when it comes to local launch, no official information is available yet.
