One of these cars could be the 2023 European Car of the Year

KUALA LUMPUR: The European Car of the Year award is a pretty big deal for an automaker to win. And for the year 2023, the jury has shortlisted seven cars that are in the running for the top prize. The winner will be announced on Jan 13, 2022, at the Brussels Motor Show.

Among the seven finalists, five are electric vehicles along with one SUV and a specifically designed Jeep for Europe (the very first from the brand).

The top seven contenders include -

• Jeep Avenger
• Nissan Ariya
• Renault Austral
• Volkswagen ID. Buzz
• Peugeot 408
• Kia Niro
• Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ4X

The above-mentioned contenders were narrowed down from a list of 27 possible contenders including Vauxhall Astra, BMW iX1, Honda Civic, Dacia Jogger, MG4, and Toyota GT86.

From the above-mentioned list, the Renault Austral and the Peugeot 408 feature internal combustion engines with electric motors. While the Jeep Avenger, ID. Buzz, Toyota bZ4x/Subaru Solterra, and Nissan Ariya are fully electric vehicles.

Last year, the Kia EV6 won the 2022 European Car of the Year award and for 2023 the voting will take place early next year.
