All-new 2026 Volkswagen Golf R launched in Malaysia, price starts from RM 337,790

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new Golf R in the local market. The latest evolution of the brand’s performance hatchback features significant design enhancements, more advanced technology and the most powerful production Golf engine to date.

2026 Volkswagen Golf R: Price 

The new Golf R starts at RM 337,790 (on-the-road, without insurance) in Malaysia, with a standard warranty. The optional Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), including 5 years' free maintenance, 5 years' mileage warranty, and 5 years' roadside assistance, increases the price to RM 355,990.

2026 Volkswagen Golf R: Engine and performance

Powering the new Golf R is a new 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine that churns out a maximum power of 333 PS and a peak torque of 420 Nm, making this hot hatch the most powerful production Golf currently in the market. This represents a 13 PS increase over its predecessor. 

Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system mated to R-Performance Torque Vectoring. The latter variably distributes torque between the rear wheels for sharper turn-in and enhanced cornering dynamics for those who live to drift.

In terms of performance, the upgraded hatchback runs from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds and hits a top speed of 250 kmph.

Available driving modes are Comfort, Sport, Race, Drift, and Individual, making it suitable for everyday driving and high-performance track use.

The new Volkswagen Golf R is sharper, bolder, and more aggressive than the outgoing model. The revised front look features an illuminated Volkswagen logo, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with a new high-performance main beam and a new front bumper.

Accentuating the rear profile are redesigned IQ.LIGHT 3D LED tail light clusters, paired with dynamic turn signals and animated rear graphics. The upgraded hatch runs on lightweight 19-inch ‘Estoril’ Alloy wheels, adding to performance as well as visual appeal. 

The exclusive ‘R’ styling elements include - 

• R design front bumper and radiator grille.
• R design rear bumper featuring quad Performance Titanium Exhaust
• R side skirts and rear spoiler

The colour palette includes - new Dolphin Grey shade, along with Lapiz Blue, Grenadilla Black, and Pure White.

Inside, the new Golf R features a bigger tablet-style 12.9-inch infotainment unit powered by the latest MIB4 operating system, offering faster, more intuitive interaction. Other key highlights include -
