About Volkswagen Malaysia
Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia is one of the most trusted car manufacturers in the country. Today, the German automaker maintains a stong dealership chain in Malaysia, including sales, service, and aftersales service. Recently VW Malaysia launched a 5 Star Service Check programme, wherein it invited car owners for a complimentary car health checkup.
Volkswagen is one of the oldest car brands present in the country. In the mid-1967, when the Malaysian government approved applications for six-car assembly plants, VW also commenced local production at Champion Motor, Shah Alam, in March 1968. From 2011 to 2019, Volkswagen Malaysia featured in the top 10 car manufacturers (sales-wise) list in the country.
By 2010, Volkswagen's passenger vehicles were produced at DRB-HICOM Pekan automotive complex that hosts the Volkswagen Pekan Plant (VPP) - it was a part of an agreement signed between Volkswagen and DRB-HICOM, prior to which the automaker pursued a partnership with Proton. VW and Proton partnership didn't work out due to various complications and political intervention, and that's when VW signed a contract assembly agreement with DRB-HICOM.
The first car to roll out of the VPP assembly line was in March 2012. VPP has since manufactured six VW models - Polo, Tiguan, Passat, Vento, and Jetta. There are only two manufacturing plants in Malaysia that use the laser welding process, and VPP is one of them. Engines and knockdown kits are shipped in VPP from VW's plants in India, Mexico, Germany, and South Africa. In 2014, VW had plans to export Malaysian-built models to the ASEAN market; however, due to complications, the plan didn't get executed.
In June 2020, Volkswagen Malaysia introduced the limited edition United range; it consisted of the Tiguan SUV and Passat sedan. Both the cars are fitted with Rolls-Royce style dynamic wheel hub caps with a self-leveling logo. The automaker also released its price list post-SST exemption, and it'll remain in effect until Dec 31, 2020. It also became the first automaker in Malaysia to launch Nationwide Home Delivery Service.
In April 2020, VPCM introduced its new logo, giving the brand new corporate identity. Further, the company in August 2019 introduced Walnut Blasting Decarboniser service that'll remove the carbon built-up in the engine, resulting in a cleaner and smoother drive. Due to its focus on quality after-sale and the human element, VW Malaysia's sales in 2018 grew by 18 percent.
Volkswagen Malaysia's utmost attention on aftersales service and quality products has translated it into a reliable brand that one can trust without a doubt.
