Highway Authorities Unaware About Toll Hikes
KUALA LUMPUR: Upcoming news of toll hikes which was reported as much as 30% has not been known by the major highway authorities. No official direction regarding increment in tolls has been sent out, claimed by Litrak(operators of the LDP and Sprint), Besraya, Anih Bhd(ECE),Plus Malaysia and Evokest Bhd(DUKE).
According to the highway authorities, word of forthcoming toll hike has taken from the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) first. Above announcement has not been made yet.
From above, it can not be stated that toll hike is not ongoing. According to the Works Minister to a news agency, there is a possibility of issuing an official statement soon.
According to today's report of media, the ministry has given a proposal regarding increment in toll charges for approval by Cabinet. One can see increment in toll charges between 20 sen and RM1 from August 2015 among several tolls in Klang Valley, the East Coast Highway and the Kulim Butterworth Expressway, after approval of the proposal.
Last year, followed by report, compensation of RM558.69 million was expected to be payable to higher authorities. There is more to the story to be known, if it is decided to postpone the earlier planned toll hikes.
