Volkswagen teases T-Roc R crossover ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut
KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen has teased the upcoming T-Roc R crossover with an official sketch. And it very well gives an idea about what to expect when it will be showcased for the first time at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
As per the spy shots of the test mule on the company’s test track, the crossover will come with a range of new features. The spy images also reveal that the car now comes with a more aggressive front accommodating larger lower air intakes. The R-badging and side vents, which were part of the earlier released R-Line package for T-Roc, have been provided as standard in the T-Roc R.
For now, Volkswagen has not disclosed any information about the powerhouse under the hood. However, there is a possibility that the crossover may borrow its mechanical bits from the Golf R, tuned accordingly to the requirements of a crossover. The Golf R features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is capable of producing 310 PS of power and 400 Nm torque. This mill is paired to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and the company’s patented 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Coming to the rear profile, the spy shots hint that it will come with R-specific quad exhaust tips along with a more sportier bumper design. It will have a lower ride height and additional braking power as well. Smoked tail lights may not be available in the new model though.
In terms of design, the crossover gets a contrast character line that runs above the windows on both sides, more pronounced wheel arches, and creased shoulders. The addition of alloy wheels may help in decreasing the overall weight of the vehicle. The new body kit makes it look more impressive than the standard T-Roc.
