2020 BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR arrives in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: 2020 BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR has been launched in Malaysia at the event called 2019 Shell Malaysia MotoGP, which was organised in Sepang International Circuit. The superbike will be available in the market only with its M Sport package and the price tag will be RM 138,500 (without insurance) including BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s three-year Roadside Assistant Programme as well as All-new three-year Warranty.

The road-going racing superbike is completely redesigned. It comes with a brand-new Flex Frame which houses an inline-four 999 cc engine. The power mill churns out a maximum power of 207 hp at 13,500 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The engine also comes with BMW ShiftCam Technology which modifies the valve timings and valve strokes and makes more power even following emissions rules and regulations. The superbike comes with BMW’s Dynamic Damping Control or DDC as standard in terms of electronic suspension.

In terms of weight, there is a change. 2020 S 1000 RR specs sheet tells that it weighs 193.5 kg, which is 14.5 kg less than the previous model. In addition to this, the maker has given a total of four ride modes for the superbike. Moreover, there are three user-modified ‘Pro’ modes.

As mentioned above, the superbike will be available in Malaysia only with the M Sport package; it rides on carbon-fibre wheels. Buyers can choose a colour from the options of Racing Blue, Racing Red and Light White. There are also BMW M Sport seat and maintenance-free M lightweight battery. Concerning the riding aids, 2020 S 1000 RR has DTC, DTC Wheelie detection, ABS, Engine Brake Control and torque adjustment.

Inside the cockpit of 2020 S 1000 RR, there is a new 6.5-inch TFT LCD full-colour panel which can display the figures even in severe lighting conditions. Moreover, it can be modified as there are three racing unique display modes. Like C 400 X and R 1250 R, Motorrad S 1000 RR is also completely built up in Berlin for the Malaysian market. The superbike has been also displayed at 2019 PACE (Premium Auto Car Expo) in Setia City Convention Centre.
