2027 Yamaha YZF-R9 debuts in Malaysia - MotoGP-inspired styling and 890cc engine

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has introduced the all-new YZF-R9 in the Malaysian market. The middleweight supersport motorcycle features a race-inspired design, a powerful three-cylinder engine, track-focused handling and advanced rider-assistance technology.

The 2027 Yamaha YZF-R9 is priced at RM 68,000 (excluding road tax, insurance and registration) in Malaysia.

As the flagship model of the R-Series, the 2027 Yamaha YZF-R9 is powered by an 890-cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC inline three-cylinder Crossplane engine. It produces 119 PS at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. 

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, a chain final drive system, and a quickshifter that has two modes – Setting 1 and Setting 2. The former allows for upshifts when accelerating and downshifts on deceleration, while the latter enables downshifts while accelerating and upshifts on deceleration for specific cornering situations.

The latest Yamaha R model underpins the gravity-cast aluminium Deltabox frame, which is the brand’s lightest aluminium frame ever. Handling the suspension duties are fully adjustable 43 mm KYB inverted forks at the front and a KYB shock absorber at the rear. The braking setup comprises Brembo Stylema front callipers with dual 320 mm discs.

Packed with a high-tech six-axis IMU, the electronics package features traction control, slide control, lift control, launch control, and engine-brake management. There is a 5-inch full-colour TFT display with four selectable themes and a dedicated ‘Track’ mode which displays track riding information including a lap timer. The Y-TRAC Rev app, mated to the Y-Connect system, offers lap timing, riding data analysis, ride logs and a virtual pit board for real-time team instructions. 

In terms of design, the all-new Yamaha YZF-R9 boasts an aggressive, race-inspired design with a distinctive front fascia, a sleek silhouette, and sharp bodywork. Adding to the aerodynamic performance are MotoGP-inspired winglets developed through wind tunnel testing to generate downforce and improve stability.

The 2027 Yamaha YZF-R9 will hit authorised Yamaha BLU Universe dealerships nationwide in January next year in Icon Blue colour.
