Honda Hornet superbike teased, debut may happen soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda showcased the Hornet superbike concept at EICMA 2021 for the first time and now it looks like it is ready to unveil the bike’s road-ready version soon. The Japanese automaker has been teasing the upcoming Hornet for a short while. Earlier, it released the design sketches of the bike and now dropped a teaser video providing us an idea of what the bike’s exhaust note will be like.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What engine will power the upcoming Honda Hornet?

The upcoming Honda Hornet is likely to be powered by a 745-cc parallel-twin engine.
  • When will the new Honda Hornet debut?

Honda is expected to reveal the new Hornet at the upcoming EICMA show, to be held in November in Milan.
  • With the new Hornet clip, we can speculate that the model will be getting a parallel twin motor. That could be the 745-cc parallel-twin engine, which powers the Honda NC750X available in the European market. The said mill generates a power output of 58.5 PS and a peak torque of 69 Nm. However, the Hornet’s power figures are likely to be more than that due to its street fighter nature.

As for the gearbox, it might get a dual-clutch transmission, just like the NC750X.

The latest video teaser also previews a computer-rendered image of the upcoming motorcycle along with the Hornet logo and a tagline, which reads 'Shake up the Hive'. The 3-D rendering showcases the sharp and edgy look of the naked sports bike featured by a low-mounted headlight and angular tank extensions. An upside-down fork, a tubular frame and a stubby side-slung exhaust are also worth noting.

For those who are unaware, the Hornet marks the revival of BigWing’s iconic model name. It is a badge that was seen on a Honda middleweight naked for many years, before being retired in 2013.
