Honda PCX: Key features explained

Honda PCX: Key features explained

Honda is a renowned player in the south-east Asian two-wheeler market and is loved in Malaysia as well. The company has an impressive lineup of two-wheelers in the country and has slowly solidified its Automatic Transmission segment as well. One of its better offerings in the 150 cc AT segment is the PCX. The scooter boasts a modern and stylish design along with an array of features that make it stand out against scooters in the same segment. Let’s take a look at some of the most important features of this maxi-scooter which is creating a hype not just in Malaysia but all across the globe.

1) Technology-driven engine

PCX Engine

Honda has always tried to infuse the best of the technologies in its products for performance enhancement. Talk about the PCX, and the Japanese automaker has incorporated various technologies like Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) and Idle Stop system to enhance the engine performance. The 149cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4- Stroke, 2-Valve engine produces 12.5 hp max power and 13 Nm of peak torque. Under the advanced engine technology of eSP, the engine is able to achieve high power and better fuel efficiency along with a quiet start. On the other hand, once enabled, the Idle Stop System turns off the engine automatically after 3 seconds of being idle to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emission. The engine easily restarts with a twist of the throttle.

2) Impressive styling and futuristic design

PCX Design

The innovations and research are not confined to the mechanics of the PCX. The maxi-scooter is very impressively designed and its modern styling makes it look like a scooter from the future. At the front, the PCX gets LED headlights surrounded by large turn indicators along with a small windscreen, while the rear features an LED tail lamp. It comes fitted with premium golden colour alloy wheels at both ends that add to its visual appeal. Neatly designed, the PCX nowhere shows any body graphics and boasts a classy look. Interestingly, the engine is placed below the floorboard of the scooter, completely packed by the body. Offered in three colours- Candy Caribbean Blue Sea, Pearl Metalloid White and Asteroid Black Metallic, the Honda PCX is literally a treat for everyone’s eyes.

3) Remote Response System and Anti-Theft

PCX Headlight

The PCX is leading on the safety front as well. Honda has introduced the anti-theft key shutter system along with a Honda smart key that features Remote Response System to add to the PCX’s safety. The key slot on the scooter is fitted with a shutter that can be easily closed manually, however, needs the back end of the assigned key to getting open. This restricts any kind of unauthorised access to the vehicle. Moreover, it comes with a Honda smart key that has an answer back button which when pressed, activates LED lights and sound from the vehicle to notify its location.

4) Combined Braking System

PCX Combi Braking

Braking on the 2017 Honda PCX is handled by hydraulic single disc up front and mechanical leading/trailing drum at the rear, attached to its 14-inch alloy wheels. Most of the two-wheelers produced by Honda in recent times are equipped with its Combined Braking System (CBS) and so is the PCX. CBS technology enables application of the right amount of brake power on both wheels of the scooter, even if only the rear brake lever is pressed. This helps in achieving the shortest stopping distance and avoids a nosedive. The feature comes in very handy especially when the brake is applied instantly.

5) Modern Utility features

PCX Utility Features

Along with the above-mentioned smart technical features, the Honda PCX also comes with modern utility features to top the practicality charts. It comes with an impressive 25-litres underseat storage with a seat stopper that can store a full-face helmet, couple of grocery bags or any other belongings. In addition to that, the PCX also has a helmet hook under the seat. It also features a neat console equipped with a 12 V power charging point to charge your mobile on the go.

Honda has always aimed at providing the best-in-class riding options to its customers and the Japanese automotive giant has never disappointed. With so many technical and utility features, the Honda PCX is surely a great option if you are ready to pay a little premium.
