Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team livery launched for 2019 MotoGP
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepang Racing Team (SRT), along with its title sponsor, Petronas has officially unveiled the uniforms of their race motorcycles. The team has its presence in all three categories in the MotoGP World Championship.
The Petronas Yamaha SRT YZR-M1 will be featured in the top-class category of the MotoGP . It will be ridden by the two top-class riders, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli. Super KIP or Malaysian Khairul Idham Pawi will be the Petronas’ rider in Moto2. He will ride the Petronas Sprinta, a powerful racing motorcycle that is equipped with a Triumph 765 engine. Ayumu Sasaki and John McPhee will be the representatives for Petronas in Moto3, they ride the Petronas Sprinta Racing motorcycle.
Mr Datuk Razlan Ahmad Razali, the Chief Executive Officer of SIC (Sepang International Circuit) said that the Petronas Sepang Racing Team is the biggest satellite or non-factory team in the paddock. It has its presence in all the three categories in the MotoGP World Championship.
He also added that the team has around 50 people from ten different nationalities. The riders are from five different nationalities - Italian/Brazilian, Japanese, Scottish, Malaysian, and French.
Mr Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, the president and group chief executive officer of Petronas has said that it pushes its involvement in motorsports by entering in MotoGP and Formula One. The partnership with the SRT denotes Petronas’ massive presence in the motorcycle racing globally. It is present in the grassroots level in Cub Prix as well as the international races like MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3. This makes the global branding and technology partnership stronger.
The MotoGP event will be held between the 6th and 8th February in the Sepang circuit for Winter test. Following this, it will go for the final winter testing in Losail, Qatar and then to the 2019 MotoGP season.
