Yamaha launches its first hybrid scooter in Malaysia, the Ego Gear Pro

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Yamaha has introduced the 2026 Yamaha Ego Gear Pro as its first hybrid scooter in the Malaysian market. Targeting the budget-conscious riders, the latest Yamaha scooter is practical, stylish and innovative for daily use.

2026 Yamaha Ego Gear Pro: Key highlights

• The Yamaha Ego Gear Pro is affordably priced at RM 6,198 (excluding road tax, insurance and registration). Included in the price is a two-year or 20,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects.
• As it is a hybrid scooter, the mechanical setup combines a 125-cc Yamaha Blue Core single-cylinder, SOHC air-cooled engine and a Smart Moto Generator. The latter ensures the engine starts quietly and supports smoother Star-Stop operation, improving fuel economy.

• The engine delivers a maximum power of 8.4 PS at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 9.9 Nm at 5,000 rpm (10.6 Nm at 4,500 rpm when the e-motor and engine work together). Sending power to the rear wheel is a CVT transmission. 
• There is also a Power Assist system that provides extra power during acceleration, which significantly helps while accelerating from a standstill and when going uphill. 
• The compact and lightweight scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped with  110/70 tyres. 

• Handling the suspension duties are conventional telescopic forks at the front and a single preload-adjustable shock absorber at the rear. The braking setup comprises a single hydraulic disc brake at the front and a mechanical drum brake at the rear.
• The Yamaha Ego Gear Pro features all-around LED lighting, an LCD meter panel supporting Y-Connect app connectivity, a 5.1-litre fuel tank, an 18.3-litre underseat storage compartment, and two front cowl pockets for storage. 
• The scooter is offered in three striking colour choices - Stellar White, Navy Green, and Cosmic Blue. 

The 2026 Yamaha Ego Gear Pro is now available at all authorised Hong Leong Yamaha dealerships across Malaysia.
