WMoto ES250i: First Impression

Mforce Bike Holdings Sdn. Bhd. has a number of brands under its umbrella, with trending bikes and scooters in their lineups. One such brand is WMoto, which has recently introduced a new 250-cc scooter in Malaysia with an ES tag. The ES or Economic Scooter is the concept under which the company retails scooters at very competitive prices. The new ES250i joins the ES range with the ES125, RT3 250, and Xtreme 150 models.

    Design and dimensions

    Based on the Keeway GT270 (or Keeway Vista), the new Wmoto ES250i looks modern with a strong and dynamic stance. Upfront lies a modern designed projector headlamp and Day Running Light that comes equipped with LED technology for longer life and clearer viewing while riding. It also offers a brighter and better penetration during foggy weather, claims WMoto.

    The seat of the new ES250i carries an anti-slip texture offering a comfortable ride. Seat height is set at 770 mm, with a 1,385 mm wheelbase and an overall width of 740 mm, while the overall length and height are 1,955 mm and 1,115 mm, respectively. WMoto confirms the size of the scooter is suitable for the riders of all groups, especially women riders whose count is increasing among motorcyclists in Malaysia.

    The scooter rolls on 110/70-R13 front and 130/70-R13 rear tyre.

    When it comes to ES250i colours, you get three choices - Fiery Red, Midnight Blue, and Slate Grey.

    Features 

    Under-seat storage: Below the seat of the new WMoto scooter, you can find a personal storage space measuring 19 litres. 

    USB port: The automaker has positioned a USB port in the front storage compartment of the scooter that lets you charge your smartphone conveniently.

    SmartKey System: It also features a SmartKey system offering you the convenience to start the scooter as long as the SmartKey is near the bike. The system also gets an Alarm Key Findings feature that tells the scooter's location, especially in the parking area. You just need to press the button available on the key, and as a result, the scooter's lights will flash for a few seconds that you will be able to see from afar.

    Instrument cluster: To communicate the necessary information to the rider, the scooter comes equipped with digital and analogue display panels.

    Fuel tank: The WMoto ES250i fuel tank measures 12 litres that will let you travel as far as 280 km before refuelling.

    Engine 

    WMoto ES250i

    Powering the ES250i is a 244 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder, SOHC engine that generates a maximum power output of 21 hp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 21 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine complies with Euro 4 emission standards and is fitted with an electronic fuel injection system. Sending power to the ground is a continuously variable transmission.

    Suspension & braking

    As for suspension, the scooter uses KYB at the front (telescopic) and rear (dual-shock absorber), for maximum comfort. The braking duties are taken care of by 240 mm disc brakes at both ends along with two-channel ABS as standard.
